cd1?

Sorry to ask what must seem an obvious question... But when is CD1? We've been TTC for 2 and a half years, and usually I just guess retrospectively when it must have been and it doesn't really matter as long as I go by vaguely the same criteria each month. However, I'm supposed to be starting IUI this month, so it's the first time it's actually been important! We've been advised to phone up on cd1 to book for day 5 scan (and were advised if this falls eg. on a Sunday then they would do the scan on the Friday, ie cd3, rather than the next Monday which would be cd6).

I know it's supposed to be the first day you get full, red flow which requires sanitary protection. However, I usually get something like this -
First day - A bit of brown spotting on wiping
Second day - Brown and red blood, still either spotting or light, which I normally use a pantiliner for
Third day - Heavier spotting / Light flow, normally redder, still only need a few pantiliners for it, though
Fourth day - Heavier red flow needing sanitary towel
Fifth and sixth days - Starts to tail off to brown discharge again

So in the description, is it the red colour which is important for identifying cd1, or the "flow"ing of it? I don't want to miss the window of opportunity for the baseline scan, but also sometimes I can spot for up to a week before AF gets going, so 5th day after spotting starts might still be the end of the previous cycle!

What do you reckon?
Thanks

There's always such mixed views on this! I see cd1 as when I see blood externally so either in my knickers or when I wipe. And it can be either brown, red or pink. By counting this as cd1 I've always had a regular 28 day cycle. Good luck! Smile

Thanks. Yes, I did a quick google before starting the post and there were so many pages I found saying different things, it was just so confusing! I think I'll phone the clinic tomorrow and hopefully discuss it with someone - I just don't want to miss the boat this cycle as feel we've been waiting so long and just want to get on with it now! But equally, it feels so ridiculous to phone and say "I'm not sure whether AF has started yet"!
Good luck to you, too :)
Thanks for your help
