Waiting to TTC

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping to start TTC at the end of the year and wondered if anyone else is in a similar position and how you are coping with the wait.

There are a few reasons we are waiting till then, such as finishing paying the car off, a chance to save up money for all things baby and to cover maternity leave and also to try and get a bit fitter/healthier before pregnancy to make it as easy as possible when pregnant.

Is anyone else also waiting to TTC? How far before TTC should I start taking Folic acid? any other advice?

Hi Gemerama,

Thanks for your reply. I hope you get your BFP soon!
I think its one of those situations where if we start TTC now we would get a BFP straight away. If we wait it might take a while but at least we would be ready, more time to save up, more time to get fitter.

Thanks for the info on Folic acid, at least that's another step in the right direction to start and that will be our wedding anniversary (4 years) too!

Hi girls! My husband and I have been planning to wait until august to start trying but decided this morning that we may as well go for it this month! Who knows how long it will take and life is too short to keep delaying what we really want. Best of luck to you! Xx

Hi ladies, my husband and I are TTC and we waited for a long while as he just wasn't ready. I really wish now that I had not been sucha good wife with taking the BC! I definitely suggest that if you know you want to start trying in 6 months time to stop the BC now and use condoms, get your hormones back to normal.. Or you could be setting yourself up for lots of horrible 2ww's and disappointment (although I sincerely hope not and wish you lots of babydust) x

Hey, we are probably going to start towards the end of the year too. I have started taking folic acid as I read you should start taking it 6 months before (conflicting information everywhere really) but thought it won't do any harm.

I too want to get in shape before conceiving. I feel like I need to strengthen my core and as I suffer with a bad back, start doing Pilates to help. I need to just do it which is easier said that done sometimes.. Does anyone have any tips on exercises to do?

I am finding it difficult waiting though.... I just keep reading up on everything!

I too am concerned it will take longer than I think it would. I'm preparing myself that it's going to take at least a year. Although I came off the pill 18months ago so my cycles are pretty much regular now. I've also managed to tune myself to when I'm ovulating (pains/type of discharge etc)

It's so exciting!! X

Hi ladies,

Good luck and babydust to you!

I've just got into cycling quite a lot, doing a 100km ride in two weeks! I need to strengthen my core a bit too. Pilates and yoga for me I think. Body balance classes are great too.

I'm not on the pill, can't use any hormonal stuff so just on condoms anyway so my body doesn't have any readjusting. I would quite happily start trying now but dh wants to wait just a bit longer, he admitted he is scared that something will happen to me during pregnancy/childbirth. He does keep talking about children and referring to it so I know it's what he wants, he is just very sensible and wants those ducks in a row first.

I am happy to wait, just getting very impatient, and like you ladies have pointed out it may take a while, I'm also wary that I'm 29 in 2 months time, which seems (maybe wrongly) quite late to be ttc#1.

I might start on the folic acid a bit sooner then if we do decide to just go for it in a few months I'll be ready.

I have 18 days left to wait now, I do tend to think about it more now that it's getting closer.

I just do other things to keep my mind off it, I actually only work a small amount of the week at home so I read a lot of books and go out to keep myself busy.
