Ovulation kits - so confused!!

27 and TTC #1. Only on third cycle so it's early day. I have been thinking about trying an ovulation kit for a bit now. I like to think I have a good handle on my cycle even through it's not completely regular each month so I thought one month I would try an ovulation kit to see if I really am spotting the right signs. I have read up on the net loads about them and the different types.
Was planning on getting one for next month but I was in sainsburys last night and made an impulse purchase of their own brand one as it was about 1/3 price of the ones I was considering and yesterday would be the day I would start testing.
The problem is it seems to go against all I have read. The instructions say to use it between 10am and 8pm (preferably after midday), not drink too much and not pee for 4hrs beforehand. I was under the impression the best sample was the one first thing in the morning!!
Anyone used these before or got any advice?
They are also difficult to interpret. The line needs to be the same or darker than the test like but mine was only just a little lighter.

I find first morning wee never picks up my LH surge! Your body synthesizes it in the morning so most people will get a peak later in the day. Early afternoon is ideal :) pregnancy tests are the ones where you definitely have to use fmu!

Thanks hanflan. Bit problematic as I'm not really keen on doing the test at work but I might have to find a way around that. I am normally home by 5 so I could always take it then possibly.
What brand tests have u been using? Do u find them simple and useful?

I use some called One Step that I get from amazon, only around 5 pounds for a bag of 50! I find them really simple to use. Only negative is that they are dip stick ones rather than just peeing directly on them. But hey, they are cheap, can't complain!
5pm should be fine! Usually any time in the afternoon or early evening is good.
