Unusual period

This is my first time posting here, I've been trying to search past threads for an answer but I'm not getting very far so here I am, trying not to overanalyse!

I'm TTC #1, used OPKs last month to single out ovulation, DTD a couple of times around the correct time.

I was due AF on Tuesday, tested Monday and got a BFN. AF came Tuesday. But I'm now not sure it did.

TMI alert- AF this month has been incredibly light, been using a pad to monitor and it's hardly enough to stain. And hardly anything when I wipe. Plus, it's a very dark brown, not blood like at all.

Anyone have any thoughts?

hi purplepingu i don't know and don't have any advice but I'm in the same boat as you. my AF was due wednesday... and since tuesday/wed/thurs/today literally just dark brown spotting (not enough to use tampon or pad just literally a couple drops) , not sure if a super light AF came or whats going on. ...

marking my place keen for anyone with more knowledge.

ps: i have tested again since 'AF' but bfn. sadly for me i think its more that something is wrong with hormones for not a proper period rather than being pregnant... Sad

That's really strange! I would say that it might have been an anovulatory cycle and it was a withdrawal bleed rather than a proper period. But if you used opks and they confirmed that you ovulated then that's a mystery!

I have no idea what's going on! I'm going to wait while after the weekend and see what happens. I've got plenty of OPKs left so I'll carry on with them and see if I have better luck next month.

OPKs don't confirm ovulation, they just pick up a hormone surge which might lead to ovulation. I'd give it a few days and reassess. Might have ovulated late or not at all.

Sorry this is confusing for you, purple. Btw, OPKs don't confirm ovulation. They only confirm you have an LH surge, but your body might not actually ovulate. I've had this the last two cycles. Am charting my temperature which is the only thing that will confirm ovulation. There a three main reasons for your 'odd' period, but you might never really find out...

  1. It is spotting and you are pregnant, but your hpts are not sensitive enough to pick it up yet
  2. It was your period, but more of a clean out in removing old blood. We get it every now and then.
  3. You had an anovulatory cycle and this is a withdrawal bleed.

See how it goes the next few days, but for now, I'd count it as CD1 until you get any further info
