Hi Can anyone advise or tell their experiences, myself and OH have been trying to conceive for 17 months now and still no joy, im 29 my partner is 32 we are both healthy, not over weight and have a relatively active lifestyle. All of both our siblings have all multiple amounts of children and have all concieved without any great waiting time but its just not happening for us, in the past i have been on yasmin up until deciding to come off when we decided to TTC, my periods are always extremely regular (apart from one time last year when they were 5 days late) i constantly use clear blue smiley face ovulation tests and every month without fail the smiley face appears right when i expect it to, my question is should the next step be GP or fertility clinic (we live in Ireland) and what in peoples experiences would be the type of tests dectors tend to carry out at this stage, also how long in the past has taken others to concieve, we are both feeling extremely low at this stage.

You are at a similar stage to us, perhaps a few months ahead. After 12 months TTC I went to the GP who ran my blood tests to check I was ovulating (I was). She then booked my husbands sperm analysis tests, and we will get the results from these this week. Alongside this, they should be referring you to the fertility clinic for a joint appointment, where they will look at your blood test results, his sperm analysis results and see if there is any obvious reason why you haven't conceived yet. They will probably also do an ultrasound scan on you to make sure there are no tube blockages and everything looks OK.

The outcome of the tests about will then dictate the next steps. It sounds like you are ovulating but if you weren't, there are drugs to help kick-start that. There are also other routes to go down if there are any sperm issues.

In the meantime, I would say just keep trying and tell yourself that that is all you can do, so you are doing everything you can and the rest is up to the docs etc :-)

Thank you Lindsay, def going to make app with doc this week, OH keeps saying he will however i think he is reluctant as he is from a very small village where doc has been there since he was a child and is nervous, need to shove the elbow in a bit, he has asked me to make an app with clinic in the city but wasn't sure if he needed to be referred by doc first, need to do something as bad depression will sink in soon if not.
Best of luck TTC
