Fertile CM but smear tomorrow

I have a bit of a dilemma. I've lots of fertile CM today but I've got a smear test at 8am tomorrow. Should I just abstain and hope that we're still in time tomorrow night??

I had this a few a months ago. I had sex the night before a smear. I was a bit worried to be honest. But I wasn't going to miss the opportunity of possibly conceiving for anything.
I had a good wash/ shower in the morning and went ahead with smear. I'm sure the nurse could tell, as I tend to get a bit of leakage: tmi! (eek!!) the next day. But hey, I'm sure she's seen worse! No idea whether this would be seen as gross or normal. To be honest I'm so desperate for a baby I really didn't/don't care lol

I would dtd and cancel the smear. I thought you were supposed to abstain before a smear test? Otherwise they have a slide covered in sperm.

InanimateCarbonRod · 22/05/2014 16:15

Yeah I would abstain too. The slide would show your DH's swimmers and might interfere with the result. You might end up having to do it again.

I screen cervical smears as part of my job and I can assure you it will be fine Smile you can see the sperm on the slide but they are far too small to cover the cells or anything. It's very very common to see sperm on a smear. A baby is more important, so go for it Grin

Opps didn't know you were supposed to obstain!

hanflan · 22/05/2014 16:45

Or you could just re-book the smear for another time if you are bothered by it. I wouldn't miss the fertile window if it were me haha!

hanflan · 22/05/2014 16:47

Oh and also, in my experience, cervical mucus obscures a slide much more than sperm does, and there's nothing anyone can do about that! Smile

What if you get pregnant this month though? You might feel a bit funny about having a smear when pg.

You don't need to abstain - just avoid any sort of lube.
