Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

So we are trying for number 2 and I have a Q about conception?

Perhaps it's a stupid question... I apologise if so.
My first baby was an accident (which is a horrible expression / best accident ever) but now we are officially "trying" for our second. I have no clue about this sort of thing so I bought a pregnancy app. The app shoes the ovulation days. Think there's a window of say 4 days with one being the most important). My question is this...
Does the sex we have on the other days of the month not count at all. Should we not do anything until those 4 days and then hump like rabbits. I don't want to be having sex if there's no point? Grin

Thanks for any replies....

An egg can only be fertilised for about 24 hours once it is released. Sperm can live for up to 7 days so there is about a week a month when dtd might lead to conception. The trick is knowing when that is. Once the egg is more than 24 hours old there is "no point" to dtd!

Bear in mind those apps only estimate ovulation based on averages - your body might be different.

Excellent! Thank you. Another question. (Perhaps equally stupid). It was very very easy for us to get pregnant the first time around ... Does this mean it'll be true the second time around? Or is there no way of knowing?

No way of knowing... Our first was an accident too but the second took 9 months with ovulation sticks every month. Fingers crossed you'll be lucky sooner but bear in mind the average is 6 months...

Try and have lots of sex outside the conception window too, otherwise you end up having functional sec which we both found really depressing and not very enjoyable!!!

Good luck!!!

Hi jalapeno! I think if you're not using ovulation sticks/charting temperature to see exactly when you ovulate then you need to be having sex before and after that 4 day window aswell. I've been using ovulation sticks which told me that I ovulate quite late, on day 18-20, so if id stuck to just trying on days 10-14 i may never have got pregnant!

No way of knowing how long it'll take I'm afraid. DD was conceived on cycle 2, I'm now on cycle 7 with one mc thrown in as well... fx it'll happen for you soon.

I was told by my gynecologist to have sex every other day for ten days after my period finished. Worked a charm! If your cycles are longer than 28 days then keep going a bit longer - but no - you don't need to hump like rabbits for four days straight.
