hi guys,

just wondering i saw some mens sperm tests in boots yesterday (about £30) - do you think they are worth a shot - to check all is working in his department - anyone used them???

although getting him to use it is a COMPLETELY different matter lol!

I wouldn't bother to be honest, just read about it and it only tests for sperm count. There are other factors that need to be taken into account such as motility and morphology! So if a man's sperm count is fine, it doesn't really mean his sperm is completely fine, if you see what I mean?

Also has some very bad reviews on the Boots website!

buddhabee · 21/05/2014 12:33

Yeh I read the reviews and they didn't seem great just wasn't sure if anyone that was having problems used them to see if it was him rather than her if you know what I mean!

If you are concerned it would be best to get a full test from your doctor as they will test for motility and morphology as well as count. Plus, from reviews, those tests seem to give completely false readings! Sad

Cool thanks just seems like we do everything just thought I'd give him something to do lol! Will they test him only after a year?

I think so! Could always tell a small porky and say you've been trying for longer than a year? But as far as I know a year is the mark that they will agree to start doing investigations.

Just be warned that if he does the Boots test and it tells him he has a low count, it could cause a lot of unnecessary stress and worry when it might not even be true, so be careful Smile good luck!

Don't waste your money. There's a lot more to a sperm test then just a sperm count. If your DP has one done via GP/hospital/clinic they will also look at the sperms mobility and any deformities. My fertility consultant said these home tests are really misleading because they don't give you the full picture.

Footnote - if your GP isn't helpful he can always go a clinic and have one done, he will have to pay, but it's worth it IF your GP isn't helpful.
