Miserable with Acne from coming off pill

I came off the pill at the end of Feb and have PCOS. My skin was reasonayclear until then. Had bad acne as a teenager. I'm now covered in acne and also have perioral dermatitis, which is a horrible scaly, red, painful mess around the corner of my mouth with pustules all over my chin. I look horrendous!!! Dr says I can't put anything on the dermatitis (a form of eczema) and just have to wait till it heals! I'm starting minocycline and going back on Dianette to control my PCOS, just waiting for AF.

Has anyone suffered from this and have any helpful tips? My skin is bleeding it is so inflamed.

I get my acne back around AF since coming off microgynon. I can't give you any tips other than be kind to yourself - don't slather make up on it etc as it makes it worse.

I even took roccutane as a teen & that didn't shift it (sent me loopy)!

Don't beat yourself up, hormones are a good thing. No hormones no bfp xx

I'm fed up with them. I never had acne as a teenager but when I was pregnant with DS I had awful acne on my chest, back, forehead & chin.
I've been off the pill & TTC now for 18mths and it's back with a vengeance and it's painful as well as ugly. You have my sympathy but I haven't anything useful to add I'm afraid.

Try this soap if you can I used it as a teenager. If the link doesn't work its called Valderma

I had a return of bad acne since coming off the Pill but after a couple of months it calmed right down. If you've been on the Pill for a couple of years (+15 years in my case!) I reckon it's just your hormones / system settings down again. I had awful ovulation pain the first couple of months and my boobs fluctuated massively in size but that's settled down too. Stick with it...

I get acne really badly all over my chest/boobs and top of my arms and back. I get it milder on my face.

The first couple of months coming off the pill my skin flared up really badly but has calmed down a lot on my face and back. My chest is covered in angry stops though like a rash and is joining up :(

It is upsetting for me but I guess I'm lucky that I can cover up my chest and arms (will be harder in summer though!) and make up on my face helps.

I wish I had some advice that would help, but I don't :( Remember to focus on why you're off your pill and that this is temporary!
Also remember that you are much more aware of it than other people :)

rufus im so sorry to hear about your skin problems.

I was on the pill for 10+ years and had clear skin, stopped the pill and got huge angry spots over my chin. thankfully 4 cycles later this has calmed down to 2 or 3 "mild" spots which are manageable. I can only say I guess it will regulate itself.

as for the dermatitis, well i have the most sensitive skin too. I get rashes, pustules etc from wearing sunglasses where the metal touches my skin. I get cracks and rashes at the corners of my mouth from toothpaste if i don't rise it properly (this then continues for at least two weeks to clear up!). i sympathize thru and thru.

but what i realise with these skin sensitivities/inflammation is that you need proper treatment tailored to your condition. get a super mild face wash (cetaphil?) and plain, gentle facial oil or moisturiser. perioral dermatitius i believe it is caused by a reaction to facial steroid creams but online it says a course of antibiotics can help to clear it up. like the cracks at the sides of my mouth moisturising doesnt clear it only comfort it, i need to use a antifungal cream as the cracks get infected by yeast which is why they take so long to go.

anyway i'm sure you will find the solution for you, just go easy on yourself and find something to feel confident and good about... for skin management its trial and error i think

Have you thought about cutting out dairy from your diet and going through a detox programme? this really worked for me. I went on a vegetarian diet with some chicken and turkey for protein, plenty of fruit and loads of water. Hope it settles soon for you x

Thank you for all the advice ladies. Currently got AF so had a new chin breakout. Don't think the heat is helping my greasy skin! Don't remember the grease when I was teenager, no wonder I was so spotty!

Which type of pill were you on? I was on yasmin and coming off it my skin was exactly like yours. Seems to be a common issue, that and gaining weight Confused (oh and hormones all over the show) after a few months it settled, but I think taking the pill also masked the reaction my skin has to certain foods. "Eating clean" really seemed to help.
