Hi everyone, my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 12 months now but so far, we haven't been lucky.
The first few months I tried the fertility tests, they came positive and my cycle was 28 days.
Then didn't manage to find it so gave up with the fertility test and just decided to have sex with my husband as often as possible. :)
These last 3 months, my cycle changed from 28 days to 34.

I went to see the doctor and he explained that I may not have ovulated... but didn't seem worried (or shall I say interested). I did a D21 blood test though revealing that I didn't ovulate!

The doctor hasn't asked to see me and I feel lost. What should I do now. Why have I stopped ovulating?

Looking for some help. Thank you in advance :) x

Firstly, very sorry to hear that you are not ovulating!
Secondly, some doctors are better than others and this one seems like they need a bit of a prompt! You need to be forceful with him/her. Make another appointment, sit down with them and basically don't leave until there is a plan in place. There ARE things they can do to help you ovulate so try not to worry Smile

Hi Helen

I agree with Han, you may have a doctor that doesn't see you as a priority because you're not actually ill, some GP's are better than others and some are terrible! Don't leave it there, you will need to push, if you're not ovulating you can't get pregnant so obviously you need answers. Have you had cycle day 3 blood test done? Do you have any symptoms of pcos?

Hi ladies,
thank you for your support. It is nice to be able to talk to people about it and get some advice.
I have a doctor appointment on Friday so I won't let him leave the room until we have a plan :)
Also never had a cycle day 3 blood test done and no symptoms of pcos either
Many thanks again.

With your longer cycles did you do the day 21 test on day 21? Or did you take account of your cycle length and move the test date to day 27??? If you tested on day 21 of a 34 day cycle the test would say you have not ovulated whether or not you actually did! The day 21 test needs to be done 7 days before your period (assuming a normal 14 day luteal phase) as it needs to be done 6 to 9 days post ovulation, which in your case could have been day 20 instead of day 14)

Hope this makes sense!

I thought of that too willitbe but told my doctor about it before the test and he said that 28 days was my cycle but when not ovulating, my period comes later, hence the 34 days cycle... so we tested on Day 21.

It is how I understood it anyway... not sure if I am correct, and not very clear either. Thought I could still do a test on the 27 day as it is next week. Not sure if my doctor will let me do it though. Do I need his agreement for this ?

The doctor is wrong to simply declare your cycle as 28 days, your cycle can change for various reasons.

Are you tracking your cycle in anyway, eg checking cm, temp, or using opks? If you have an idea of when you are ovulating, it would help determine when to test. Personally if I had had a change in cycle from 28 to 34 days as you have, over a few cycles, I would definitely try to get a day 21 test done on day 27. But unfortunately you will probrably have a difficulty persuading that doctor to agree to the test on that date.

When you say you had fertility tests, do you mean you were using opks?

If you have the funds currently, then see if you can find somewhere to get the blood test done privately next week.
If not, then try persuading the doctor (or find another one that might listen!).

If this is not possible, then perhaps tracking your cycle might be a good idea for a couple of months. I would recommend temping BBT and cm monitoring, and use the fertilityfriend.com website. Then if you see a clear biphasic cycle, take the charts to the doc and demand a retest on the day you think is 7dpo!

It might be that you are not ovulating, but it could equally be that your cycle has just changed. I hope you get an answer soon!

Hi ladies,
many thanks for your support and sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I was waiting for updates.
I was meant to see this doctor following the results of D21 blood test but cancelled it as I can't stand him :p
I have started using fertilityfriend.com and I have bought a few ovulation test to see myself if I ovulate or not.
I did a pregnancy test this morning as I was at 37 days without period but it came back negative and while I started writing this post, my period came... It is very frustrating really. My cycle is all over the place so I feel lost.

Will see what fertilityfriend.com and the ovulation tests reveal.

Hi Helen
Can you see a lady doc at your practice? I've had something similar and have had blood tests (awaiting results) and going for ultrasound at local hospital this afternoon to find out what's going on. It may well be 'nothing wrong keep shagging' (I have a DD) but my lady doc was v kind and seemed to understand straightaway my need to find out.
I also asked for one of the lady docs who have kids (their profiles are on the website).
Don't give up, you can't just keep DTD if you're not certain you're ovulating it will do your mental health and relationship no good at all xx

HelenPhillips · 15/05/2014 11:23

Good idea Smogville. Keep me informed how it goes for you x

Thanks Helen. So ultrasound showed everything as normal, now I need to make another appt with GP to discuss blood test results. I am in my pjs having a glass of rose in the garden. DD who is 2.7 has just done a poo in the bath! Do I really need another child?! X
