Coming off pill mid packet

Hi all, I'm new to mums net, and new to concieving. Hubby and I are keen to start trying now, but I'm 15 days into my pill packet. Am I ok to just stop taking the pill now and start try? Don't want to wait.

Hi Katy.

Personally I wouldn't recommend it. My experience (and I'm in no way a medical person) is that stopping mid packet throws everything out of sync for a while. Seeing this packet through will take a little longer but it may lead to a more normal cycle more quickly. If you want a more qualified opinion then a family planning clinic (or helpline) may be the best place to ask.

Also be aware that it could take a few months for the pill to get out of your system, so to speak, depends how long you've been on it.

I hope this has helped, good luck :)

Katy

I agree with the above :) it seems to work better if you finish your pack of pills and then don't start a new pack. I've got pregnant very quickly doing that. Good luck!

I third this opinion. Even though they are not "real" periods on the pill, your body might be used to the timings, so throwing it all out of whack might not help your cycle settle back to normal. I know it's hard to wait but it'll be worth it Smile

Agree re it may be a while before things return to their natural state. When I came off the pill, I didn't have a period for 9 months!

Just to give you a bit of hope though... my periods went back to being VERY regular (to the day!) immediately! And I had been on the pill for 10 years! So it could take a while, could be really quick, you never know Smile

Thank you so much everybody. Ok I'm going to wait them based on the advise and next month it is :-)
