Eggs before ovulation

I had an internal scan done six days ago. The sonographer said I had an egg that looked ready to be released that day. I said that can't be right because at that time I wasn't due to ovulate for another ten days.

Any ideas how long they last in the ovary before they're released?

I may have PCOS (awaiting test results) and am nervous about whether or not I've ovulated this month.

When i checked my dates I realised I conceived my son the day after my period. I queried this with the obstetrician at my 12 week scan and he said 'well your 22 I don't think its that unusual'. He was pretty dismissive.

I don't have PCOS.
