HPTs: when do the lines come up?

I've always assumed that any positive line would come up at the same time as the control line (I'm using ICs).
Is that right? Or could the control line come up first and a positive line only show up after waiting the requisite amount of time? I generally bin them once I see a control line appear (quite quickly) but maybe I'm being too hasty.

I'd say you are being too hasty! I wait until the allotted time is over then bin them. Good job as yesterday I got my faint line and would never have known it was there if I'd binned it as soon as the control came up :)

You need to wait the full time.

It's the same with OPKs. If you don't wait the full time the line doesn't develop as much.

Oh definitely wait! My line didn't come up until about 10 mins after the allotted time, but my now 25 week bump says it was definitely a BFP!

fuckertyfuckfuck · 19/04/2014 07:05

Took over 15 minutes to get my BFP line, shes now 3

Definitely wait. The control line appearing just means that the liquid has soaked that far up the stick. It takes a bit longer for the positive line to appear.

chillychicken · 19/04/2014 10:26

My line came up about 5 minutes after the control line. You're meant to wait until the stick has gone completely white, apart from the control/test lines which takes roughly 10 minutes.

I'd definitely wait at least 10 minutes Smile

Blimey, I had no idea it could come up after the control line. I'm so glad I asked!
Not sure if I'll be able to test again before Wednesday as I'm staying at the in-laws. Argh!
