TTC after coil?

Well we're just TTC baby #3 for me and baby #1 for my partner. I've had the coil for about 2-2.5 years. I had the coil removed on Friday and tbh the doctor just said 'let's hope for some good news soon then' so I'm thinking do I wait for AF before trying or do we just see what happens but not having a period I haven't a clue where I am within a cycle?! I don't even know how long periods take to come back after a coil is it straight away??!? Confused is not the word but it's the not knowing that's more frustrating. Any ideas or similar experience??

When I had my Mirena Coil in I still had regular periods. They were much lighter and short lived than normal periods but still followed a routine 30 day cycle.

I had my Coil removed for the purpose of TTC after almost 2.5 years of having it and it was taken out about 10 days before my period was due. My period still arrived on the expected day and then me and DH just continued to have sex as normal.

The Doctor had advised us it would probably take 6 months to conceive (due to the way in which the coil affects the endometrium lining) but I actually fell pregnant straight away.

I got my BFP less than 6 weeks after my Coil was removed - me and DH were Gobsmacked

I had a copper coil for 4.5 years. Took it out in late December and got a BFP mid March. They say because it's not hormonal your cycles go back to normal straight away but I don't believe this. Just because it has no hormones in it doesn't mean it doesn't affect your hormones (if this makes sense).

A week after the coil was removed AF arrived - rather than 3 days medium-ish, it was 5/6 days very light. Then the first cycle of TTC I had a weirdly long cycle (34 days as opposed to my usual 25 - 28), lots of weird symptoms like sore boobs, nausea, funny cramps (not like AF). I was convinced I was pregnant despite constant BFNs!

Eventually AF arrived and I since learned that it's not unusual to have wacky pregnancy symptoms after removing the copper coil - the coil thins your uterine lining, so the first cycle or 2 after you have it out, your hormones are building it up again, which can have the effect of mimicking pregnancy symptoms.

Same here. TTC number three, first for dp. I had my coil out November, had a period December and January then bfp! Currently 14 weeks! Was surprised how quickly it happened.

Thanks ladies. Just wish AF would show up so I know where I am. Especially after having surgery for endometriosis 18 months ago whilst I still had the coil. I just feel that as soon as I have a period it'll be fine and fertility shouldn't be affected which again great news! All this unknown is a killer. Never thought I'd be doing this again and was really cool and relaxed about it all telling my partner it'll happen when it happens and day coil removed. Bam - needs to happen now lol

Gennz - the copper coil thins your lining?! Wish I'd known this, I went on it due to the lack of hormones in it for 4.5 years too, gave me heavy painful periods, came out last Jan and I've since had 3 mc , I really hope it's not due to the coil thinning my lining as I went on it in prep to ttc

I know the thinning of the lining is one of the ways the Mirena works as well - hence why I was told it could take up to 6 months to conceive. It was explained to me that my womb lining would need to re-build itself back up to a sufficient thickness to allow a fertilised egg to implant and burrow.

I was told that it doesn't thin the lining as such it just doesn't build up which is why I didn't have periods as there was nothing to get rid of.

Well a week after coil removal and ati no signs of AF. I've had little nightly cramping but nothing tbh my boobs are weird and tender and been a right miserable what's it all week. Just woke up on sofa after headache and just tired. With cool removal are their any 'withdrawal' effects with the hormones removed with the coil or is this AF really building up for one mega one lol hate not knowing what my bodies doing!!

I had a copper coil (no hormones) I conceived with weeks of it being removed. My periods were always heavy with my in coil before hand.

The mirena is different. Which did you have in? I'm confused a bit tbh.

I had the mirena and I don't have a clue tbh either. It's so confusing. Doctor said that if we had dtd within the 7 days before removal that I could fall pregnant. So this leads me to believe that ovulation could happen straight away but she didn't really say much else. I've been waiting for AF and still no show. Now I may be being stupid hear but surely is need to ovulate again before AF returning especially as it stops the womb lining growing but does this need to build up again first before AF argh lol. At least when AF shows you know what's going on! How long after removal for you? X

I think the copper coil is very different. Your periods never stop and in fact can be heavier. You continue to ovulate too.

I suspect your cycle will take time to settle again, your first period maybe light.

I'd try not to read too much into what your body is doing right now. Easier said than done though. I'd be questioning every ache down there.

Well I had my copper coil out in February, bled for a few days straight away, had one normal period 28 days after that and am now pregnant (5 weeks). My doctor told me with copper coil periods will continue as normal once it's removed. Good luck!
