So what did you do to prepare your body/help you on the way to your BFP?

eating more healthily? stopping caffeine/alcohol? vitamin supplements?

I was hoping to get away with a simple ... drink and eat what I want until I get a BFP then start with the healthy stuff, but out of interest would like to know =)

I started taking folic acid, apparently it can be beneficial up to 3 months before conceiving, and cut out alcohol, which was fairly easy for me as I don't mind being the designated driver on nights out!

kitkatkaty87 · 14/04/2014 12:32

I'm taking conception vitamins, cut out caffeine and alchohol now and going to try and eat healthily! I also read trying to drink all of your recommended water intake is supposed to help too, so I've been trying to get that down me.

bellaboo88 · 15/04/2014 12:30

Stopped drinking, vitamins/folic acid. I tried to cut down on caffeine I.e tea & choc but I couldn't. Also tried exercise but I can't keep it up. I'm not fat just lazy lol! Bmi is good.

I'm onto cycle 3 soon, soon as I get a bfp I'll be healthier esp with food! Xx

I started taking folic acid and vitamins/iron. Started exercising a little bit more. Other than that, not much! I don't smoke, and I don't drink too much. I still drink a small amount at weekends with friends but the way I look at it, this ttc malarky could take a very long time, so I just need to plod on with my life and if that means having a couple of glasses of wine then so be it Wink

hanflan · 15/04/2014 12:44

Oh and I am limiting myself to one (big!) coffee a day, in the morning!

Theyvallgone · 15/04/2014 14:28

Oh fab, I'm taking conception vitamins and trying to cut down on caffeine (not a big drinker anyway but when I do have a coffee it's usually a filter one which is apparently very high in caffeine!). I will struggle with the alcohol :/ would be easier to cut down in second half of cycle if I was having regular cycles! Argh! At least I suppose eating more fruit and veg will be easier with the warmer weather (salads etc)

I've just started TTC, from MN advice think I will start on folic acid (didn't know it was useful to start taking it in advance, d'oh!) and try to wind down my alcohol & caffine intake. I think the caffine especially is going to be hard - I drink 3-4 cups coffee EVERY DAY & know from experience I get headaches if I stop!! Which is probably a good sign to stop even without TTC!

Also a social/occasional smoker, so determined to cut that out - but quite glad of the excuse - it's crept up on me in the past couple of years & I kind of hate that Im a smoker (except when Im stressed & want an excuse to leave a room and go stand contemplatively outside for 10 mins, then I love it!)

hi perpetual Smile friend from another thread Wink

re: stopping smoking, I was a smoker for years switched to casual smoker for the last four years (once or twice a week) ... totally recommend Allen Carr The Easy Way book if u have any trouble quitting. I officially quit on nye and its been a piece of cake! That book is amazing....

Sparrowlegs248 · 18/04/2014 12:13

I haven't done a great deal. I do take conception vitamins ( but will switch to just folic acid as they cause constipation!!) but have been ttc for 12 cycles.

I eat plenty of fruit and veg but could do with losing a stone. Haven't bothered thinking i'll be pregnant soon...

Always been very active and don't smoke.

I do however drink too much wine. I have cut it down to weekends only.

Sparrowlegs248 · 18/04/2014 12:16

Probably should cut out coffee too. At least 4 cups a day...

PerpetualStudent · 18/04/2014 13:17

Sounds like a very good attitude Nottalotta :)

Hi Thamrin! Thanks for the Alan Carr recommendation, I've actually had another friend rave about him & bought the book for my heavy smoking sister at xmas (she wanted to quit, wasn't being horribly passive-aggressive!) & she hasn't touched fags since! So I know where to go when I do take the plunge :)

Have found myself cutting down quite a bit this week though - zeal of being a new TTC-er?!

But coffee? Um, not so much - seem to have opposite reaction & am defensively glugging it by the pint! There's a jar of decaff in my cupboard which I bought to try wean me off - I laugh at it everyday...

thamrin · 18/04/2014 15:41

haha! funnily enough since quitting smoking I have become a bit coffee obsessed and can't seem to get enough! woops.. will have to cut back when get bfp
