So this month I used opks to check when I ovulate and it seems my lp is only around 9/10 days. Im really worried this is going to cause us problems ttc. Anyone have any experience or advice please

Don't panic I believe about 9 days is the minimum needed. Mine was 7/8 days and I didn't conceive though I eventually did when on clomid which made me ovulate earlier thus lengthened the LP. I also think my underactive thyroid may have played a part. Unfortunately docs are not very helpful on this issue.
Do a search and there are LOADS of threads in this issue one in particular called the "short luteal phase gang". Vitamin b6 is the first thing to try.

9 or 10 days is fine. I conceived with a LP of 9 days. If you're concerned about it you could try to see your GP. Don't start taking high doses of B6, because they can have some bad side effects if your levels rise too much.

I took B100 to lengthen mine slightly, I also had spotting from about 7dpo so it really was too short. 9/10 days is probably fine.
Also one to think about - I had a monitored cycle one month (Where they scan you every couple of days) and I had a positive OPK on day 11. I went for a scan that morning and had already ovulated so the positive OPK can sometimes indicate immediate ovulation or in fact be late!
So your luteal phase may be longer than you feared (and you should get shagging early in the cycle!)

Hi blamber, just popping back on this board to see how old friends are doing. How many weeks are you now?

Beansprout30 · 09/04/2014 18:50

Thanks all for the replies, I got a postive opk on the Saturday and we bd'd the night before and on the Sunday so hoped we would have had a good chance. Gutted as we only had 1 month left to try before dh goes away for work.

Vjones, I came across a similar post from you a little while ago, how have you been getting on?

Ah, well I came off the pill and LP was only seven days for the first three months despite me taking vit b6. So I stopped the b6 and also stopped using opks and conceived in month five.

Forgot to say, LP lengthened naturally to 10 days.

Beansprout30 · 09/04/2014 19:21

Sounds promising!

Hi Vjones, I'm 8 weeks now. How about you? I read in another thread you had a scan the other day to find out the sex? You must be so excited Smile

After 2 years 4 months ttc the only thing that has finally stretched my LP to 9 days this last cycle (from 7/8 days, or spotting from 5dpo) is a combination of acupuncture, chinese herbs, vit b6 and vit c, and a wheat free diet. The vitamins are supposed to extend the LP, the other stuff is all about balancing hormones therefore making the two parts of the cycle more even. I'm hopeful all this will continue to work and improve it further. I used to ovulate around day 19 or 22, last cycle it was 17. Clomid didn't do anything to my LP.

Just wanted to add that I had a 7 day lp and the only thing that helped was Clomid, which lengthened my lp to 14 days and enabled me to conceive both my kids. GP and NHS gynae were both worse than useless, telling me categorically that ALL women on the planet had a 14 day lp. Luckily I eventually saw a fertility specialist who was a bit more clued up (my short lp was caused by the onset of premature ovarian failure - was very lucky Clomid did the trick).
