erratic periods - when do I test?

I've had a couple of erratic periods after being regular as clockwork. One very looong cycle (7 weeks, did p tests, all negative). Then a short 3 day bleed. Have now had early pregnancy symptoms for two weeks and a negative test (probably testing too early).

For a more conclusive test do I do one on the basis of an average normal cycle for me... or as I had a short period should I get a true result earlier? What is the general average anyway????

I would perhaps wait 28 days before testing from the start of your last bleed even though it was short.

I would advise you to keep track of your waking temperature. If it stays high for more than 18 consecutive days (so 18 days after ovulation) there's a high risk you're pregnant. I would then do a testto make sure.
