Hi everyone! Does any of you IVF ladies know about the differnt protocols for PCO ladies ? I have my first Ivf app a week on Tuesday and Id really like to know a bit more of what's in store before I go ! I have Pcos ttc 5 years , first Ivf looming after 8 failed clomid cycles, and lot of prodding, poking and procedures im finally here ! .

I also have PCO and had my first cycle of IVF in March after 4 failed cycles of Clomid. TTC #1 for almost 2 yrs.

I had the short protocol which was really quick;
Natural AF (1st March)
Baseline scan on day 3
10 days of stims with injections (so none of the down regging other IVF'ers describe on the long protocol)
EC 14th March. Started progesterone pesseries.
1 blast transferred 19th March.
BFP 28th March

Because of the PCO and being quite small my FC were worried about side affects of all the drugs, which is partly why they opted for short protocol. But I also have a unicornate uterus so that was a factor as well.

The side affects weren't too bad really, just severe bloating that hasn't gone down. I can actually feel my poor swollen ovaries. Each one is about the size of an orange and they hurt if I cough or sneeze . FC said they will now stay that way until the placenta takes over in a few more weeks so I'm not complaining, just feeling very lucky to get this far.

Wow thanks for your reply secret geek. And congrats with you bfp! I'm hoping for the short protocol as I'm small aswell my bmi is only 21 so just scrapped into guidelines for funded Ivf! I have Pcos and my last period was last October !! That's normal for me , do you need a natural Af in order to start the Ivf cycle ? X

Secret - my IVF story is almost identical to yours!

I have PCO but ovulate so our infertility was unexplained. We'd been TTCing for two years at the point we started IVF. Four cycles of Clomid was unsuccessful here too but the short protocol IVF worked a treat.

Replied too soon! Yeah, 'thin' PCO here too.

Our IVF went like textbook, apart from slight OHSS. Good number of eggs, all fertilised and still going by day 3. Had one top grade blastocyst put back at day 5 and had 3 other v good blastocysts to freeze. Our blastocyst became a BFP and is now a gorgeous toddler!

It can and does work, though I truly believed it wouldn't for us. I was so negative beforehand. I found counselling, acupuncture and hypnotherapy CDs (esp the Zita West ones) v helpful.

Hope ours goes as smoothly congratulations to you , I'm sort of feeling the same I don't think I will ever get pregnant and it's just so much to get through, I've heard Pcos have a higher risk of Ohss, with me not having regular periods I think I might have to have long protocol , were your periods regular ? Thanks again for you well wishes makes me feel a bit more positive about the outcome :) I'm 27 so I suppose age is on my side X

I'm not sure if you need a natural AF for short protocol gotta - sorry. The only thing Clomid did for me was regulate my cycle so I knew AF would come. Making a list of the questions you want to ask might be useful. It's all quite overwhelming and I found myself getting home from each appt and remembering all the things I'd meant to ask but didn't.

Great to hear a positive story stuck. I'm only 5+2 so still worried it could all go wrong and constantly on knicker watch! Counting down the days till early scan on 22nd. It feels like forever away.

I don't think you need a natural af for short protocol as my FC offered to put me on the pill to induce af to coincide with holiday dates.

Hi. I have pcos and haven't exercised for well over a year. This was on the advise of my gynecologist. Can't wait to exercise again. I haven't had 'natural' cycle for almost 3 years and have been on OI for well over a year. In January started ivf after 6 failed cycles of OI. I had my first frozen embryo transfer 12 days ago, after the first transfer being unsuccessful. Trying to be pragmatic, but yesterday, day 11, I had some spotting, sickness and diarrhoea. Felt horrific. Spoke to the nurse and said I need to wait until Monday, day 14, to go in for the pregnancy test. I'm so anxious, it's driving me nuts. Spotting has turned into more of a light period. Trying not to read too many articles, but that's hard in itself. It would be nice to hear if anyone else is in the same boat.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't experienced it but I do experience spotting every month pre af and the worst thing you can do is google it (easier said than done!) as everyone is different.

Mabey it was a bug the sickness! Although it is an early preg sign , soooo hard not to google im terrible for it , do hers crossed for you tomorow good luck bonkers ! And thanks liquorice before my clomid ther give ma norethisterone to induce a fake pirod so maybey ther will do that again , wasn't sure if needed to be natural , and yes secret geek I will definAtly write a list of questions thanks for your reply :). I'm just to inpatient lol xx

Ah thanks liquorice and faith. Positive thoughts, although the bleeding has gotten worse over the last 12 hours. Guess just have to wait and see. Patience is a virtue!!! Xx
