Opks! Help!

This month for the first time I started using opks. The instructions said that it is only a positive if the test band is as dark or darker than the control band. The day before yesterday the test band was very close to being as dark as the control band but not quite, then yesterday it was a negative.

Does this mean that I have ovulated?

I did read that you are meant to limit fluid intake a few hours before testing but I am not good at that! Could that have had something to do with it being slightly lighter than control band?

Yes, if your urine is diluted, the LH levels will be lower. I would say, a line that is almost as dark is a positive. Especially if they go back to negative again the day after.

There is also a chance you had a mini surge, that didn't go all the way and won't lead to ovulation, but if you're usually regular, that is quite rare.

Thanks Grin

My cycle is usually a bit irregular :-/ that's why I started using them... Fingers crossed tho!

For me, the control line has to be a lot darker than the test line for it to be positive, I've cross-checked with the smiley face CB opks! But I've also heard ladies on here say that they never got a darker line, so it think if you haven't got any other signs of ov like pains or cm then it's hard to say whether this was a positive or not.

I did have some cramps which is new for me. Confused

For me mine only go just as dark as the control line. The only time they go darker is if I'm using them as a hpt and I'm pregnant. Sometimes your surge doesn't last long so you might have missed it.

If it went fairly dark, then next time was neg, I would take it as you did ovulate in between. The paler line could be dilution or it could have just been leading up to the surge, maybe if you had taken the test a few hours later it would have shown a full dark positive. Do you get any other signs of ov, eg ewcm?

Ducky23 · 06/04/2014 17:35

I had a small amount of ewcm and cramping on my right side which I haven't had before, wasn't too sure what to expect with my cycle because I gave birth in feb and heard that can sort irregular cycles (my daughter was stillborn Hmm) I also tried accupuncture but have only has one session so far.
