When can i get fertility tests?

Hello, My husband and i started ttc for #1 twelve months ago after i came off the mini pill. I have not conceived at all. I am 30 and DH is 33. I think i have got to grips with when i am ovulating due to book 'taking charge of your fertility'. I take a conceiving supplement. I have cut out caffeine and reduced my alcohol. We went to the doctor and he took a blood test from me to check my progesterone was going up on day 21, which it was. He also tested DH for sperm count which was normal. Doc said he cant refer us for any more tests because of our age and the other tests were normal. He said we have to try for 2 years before the NHS will let us do any more tests! It seems like such a long long time to wait if their may be something else wrong! Anyone know if this is right, been through this or can offer any advice? Going Mad!!

Nice guidelines say that you can be referred to a specialist after 12 months ttc, whether or not there are any obvious problems. Try to get this referral. Maybe you can see a different GP or go back and show him the guidelines? Of course they're only guidelines, they don't have to follow them. Alternatively, go see a doctor privately - they can write to your GP to request a referral.

If your budget allows it, lots of fertility clinics will do a fertility mot for somewhere in the £300 range - shop around a bit as costs and what they cover will vary. That said, it's quite possible to have a full range of tests done and possibly all come back positive, in which case you're poorer but no wiser. Hope you get a bfp soon!
