The follow up to my small follicles post is that even after three days on the max dose of Menopur I have not responded at all. To say the bottom has fallen out of my world is an understatement. We are awaiting the follow up appointment and will see what is said there.

beckif, have you stopped taking the menopur now or are they letting you carry on for? If it's any consolation/hope I was on 4 vials a day for about 15 days I think and that was just to produce 1 follicle for iui, don't give up. I know how hard it is though {{{{hugs}}}}

Sorry to hear that BeckiF....how quickly is your follow-up appointment?

Babymad4num3 · 14/08/2006 15:01

So sorry beckif!

BeckiF · 14/08/2006 15:45

I've to stop all the drugs. My biggest follicle today was under 10mm. Apparently it's going to be some weeks before my appt. Not months, but weeks. A long time anyway.

Hi BeckiF

I'm not sure about all your background and the tests you had before starting stimulation. Please find attached a link to one of the most useful websites I've found. It is a fertility clinic in the US but they have lots of information on FSH, ovarian reserve, resting follicles, success rates etc. If you have time and click through all the links you may find some useful information. I've also added a link under Conception over 40 which is a link to a very good paper. It gave figures on women who had a poor response on their first cycle and went on to produce more eggs and increased their chance of getting pregnant.
Link fertility info

Becki F
I am so sorry to hear your news. I have seen your posts before and was keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I too had to cancel my first IVF cycle due to poor response. Only one follicle grew to a size naywhere near decent and I was told the chances of that follicle containing an egg, fertilising etc was very low.
I never expected to have to stop IVF 1/2 way through - I had never heard of that happening to someone else and I was not prepared for it. It really was a hard knock.
3 months later we tried again - this time 7 eggs, 4 fertlised, 2 embryos transfered and one (now 3 year old) baby
We have tried IVF 2 since. No reponse and then OHSS on the last cycle (15 eggs all fertilised, 2 embryos transfered but this time no baby).
So IMHO your 1st response to IVF does NOT indicate how you may respond if you go through it again. My DH likens IVF to cracking a safe - you just don't know when all the bits will come together
I know you have been through a lot already and I am sending you the very best wishes

BeckiF, I am so sorry to hear your news. I have also been watching your messages as i too was in a similar situation to you a couple of years ago.
In the end i managed to convince them to continue with the treatment and managed to scrape together just 3 'undersized' folicles. My some miracle they all fertilised, 2 embroys transfered and one fertilised resulting in a 19 month old daughter.
I understand your heartache and wish you all the luck in the world.

hang in there.... I did not respond to my first set of drugs... they had to change them and I got my DD... my neighbour did not respond to her IVF cycle and they abandoned the cycle - and she got PG naturally the same month... another miracle DD... I have been where you are and know the devestation but as Angelfire's DH said it is a matter of timing ... this lack of response does not necessarily mean no response ever... keep positive, keep asking for more treatment, look at other drugs... all the best!! Wishing you loads of luck....
