Hi everyone, just an update on the early scan I went for this morning, everything seems fine, strong heartbeat and measuring exactly 8 weeks as I'd calculated (I guess that's the good thing about TTC like a mad woman, you can actually pinpoint the date of conception haha).

The relief is amazing but I'm not completely relaxed yet (will I ever be?! Doubt it). It was so strange to see a little beating heart and to think that's inside me?! Mind-boggling xX

Lolly84 · 01/04/2014 18:54

Hey ladies,

hazel sorry you are feeling blue. I agree with energy one that your right to get it checked out.

Helen whoop to the. EWCM - great. Eggs apparently come out a couple of days after us what I have read.

lady do you mind if I ask why you got an early test? Was something making you panic? Great news about your healthy baby

Nothing new from me xx

Ladymillion · 01/04/2014 19:42

Hey lolly, I was feeling quite anxious as had no major symptoms. Felt like a fraud haha! So I looked online and they offer 'reassurance scans' for £50 about 5 mins away from where I live so I thought why not?!

I was sooo nervous that something would be wrong, it's a strange feeling for me because I'm normally a laid back person. About everything! Evidently not pregnancy Confused

Lolly84 · 01/04/2014 19:57

Ah right, wow that is worth the money. I am trying to stay away from google. Keep going to google stuff and then think I better not. X

Ladymillion · 01/04/2014 20:08

Yep google is the DEVIL! But I can't keep away!

Lolly84 · 01/04/2014 20:15

Maybe the best thing to do is stay away. Will stress you out. Only gonna by how I feel when I google an ailment. Xx

Gennz · 01/04/2014 20:15

Hi everyone! Just popping in to see how you're all going. Hazel hope you're alright - you friends sound like ours! (In fact sound like me pre pregnancy Blush) All of our friends realised immediately that I was knocked up when we had them over for a barbeque & I had one glass of bubbly all night (instead of a bottle like I would normally). I must admit while I do miss having a few drinks I'm liking not feeling awful & hungover on a Saturday morning.

I had a work trip to Sydney last week and splashed out on some expensive J brand maternity jeans and a couple of little vest onesies for the baby (sounds so weird to say that!). I am pretty clueless about what babies wear but ours will be a December arrival which is sort of the equivalent of June in the UK so I imagine it will be quite hot. It's way too early to shop & I'm worried that I'm jinxing it but I really wanted to go shopping & I couldn't justify spending money on things I wasn't going to be able to wear in a couple of months! That said I bet I'll be in the maternity jeans sooner rather than later - I feel sooo fat, have already put on 1.5kg (about 3lbs) mainly in my boobs which have shot up from 10D to 12DD!! I'm only 5 + 3! Arrrghhh

Lolly84 · 01/04/2014 20:55

Gennz I feel like people will know straightaway when I say no to alcohol. Only had 1 weekend so far and blamed not drinking on work. I have been saying to people close to me for a while that I want to get really healthy ie no alcohol so I suppose I can use that. Must be hard not to buy more things. Xx

mrshjb · 01/04/2014 21:15

Gennz nice to hear from you. Glad you're doing well! Never heard a bra size being 10-12 anything though!! Is that like clothes size with a cup size attached?!!!

Lady glad the scan went well. I totally don't blame you for having the early scan, I'd be well tempted for 50 quid as well :)

Hazel that is quite a lot of alcohol. Hats off to you both to be able to drink that much and hold down a job!! If I have one night out at a weekend now I'm suffering all week for it!!

lolly I was wondering when you were supposed to OV based on ewcm but I've put myself on a google ban so I couldn't look it up. Still not convinced I'll actually ovulate but at least I kind of have something to go off and if AF doesn't show up in the next 2 weeks then I'll have a base line date to potentially test from. Will just have to wait and see though. Might be another month where my body decided to trick me again!!

kiki I would definitely recommend reflexology. It's sooooo relaxing!!

Gennz · 01/04/2014 21:38

It's 34D to 36DD. My boobs feel enormous! So glad I got bigger bras though, I was really suffering in the old ones. Hopefully they won't keep expanding at this rate.

mrshjb · 01/04/2014 22:03

Ahhh makes sense. Looks like you're on for huge boobs then! My sister's didn't change at all during her pregnancy so I bet I'm the same!

misskgb · 01/04/2014 23:01

Hi ladies. Good to hear all your stories n mostly getting on ok. I had my booking in appt today with the midwife. Have always been heavy n whilst im only a size 14 n very active, I'm only 5'3 meaning my bmi is high. She's freaked me out a bit saying she needs to keep an eye on me. Not over the panic number but still high enough to worry about. Put me on a bit of a downer, especially now I've finished playing netball until after birth. Will have to go for lots of walks n start swimming. Waiting for a scan date now x

OP posts:
mrshjb · 02/04/2014 07:17

Sorry to hear you're on a bit of a downer misskgb. BMI is pretty rubbish really. It doesn't factor in body shape or amount of muscle. I think the most important thing is that you're eating a good balanced diet and that you're getting enough exercise. Walking and swimming sound good. There is a heavily pregnant woman in my aerobics class and she just does alternatives to more strenuous moves. It'll be exciting to get your scan date I bet :) xx

binkybunny · 02/04/2014 07:30

Hi all. Gennz I've gone from a 36/38b to a 42d since becoming pregnant Shock really struggled finding a bra that size. It was so embarrassing in Mothercare but the girl was really lovely.

misskjb my Community midwife didnt blink at my 29.9 bmi but the hospital midwife gave me a huge patronizing spiel about gentle walks blah blah blah and didnt evrn bother asking what kind of exercise I do normally. I managed a 4 mile hill walk last week! She also nearly ruined the excitment from our scan going on about high risks for my second child. Which we're not even planning on having.

Kiki your skiing sounds lovely. Might have to drive up at the weekend for a little go at the weekend!

mrshjb · 02/04/2014 08:07

How rude binky. Why would she even start talking about a second child, totally irrelevant at this stage isn't it.

Just wondering....Do any of the pregnant ladies on here have a lower than average bmi?! When I went to the doctors about my period issues, she said to me not to lose any weight. My bmi is just under 20. Have wondered for a while if putting a couple of pounds on might help me a little bit. What do you all think?

Hazelbrowneyes · 02/04/2014 08:17

H I don't drink that much Grin Actually, the reason we do drink a lot is actually work. The stress of running your own business is so much more than I ever realised. I wouldn't do it again.

I've decided to have a completely dry April. Weekends will be tough but I'm determined. I'm about 10lbs over my normal weight so I want to lose some of that.

Feeling better today but still have AF cramps. Will book GP appointment though.

binky jeez, I never realised some mw would be so rude Shock

Gennz Eek! I'm a 32G, terrified of any increase!! Grin

Lolly That is another reason I'm having a dry April - I can then just say "Oh no, I'm just trying to lose weight. LOVED being hangover free in April so I'm continuing."

Lady The reassurance scan sounds fab! I'll probably want one of those.

kiki yes, you're right. I think I need the reassurance from a doc.

Ah, I love this little group Grin (Sorry if I've missed anyone...work is already manic this morning!)

binkybunny · 02/04/2014 12:42

Just a comment about private scans, I don't want to scare anyone as I think this is really quite rare but my sonographer told me to be careful going private as there is one person near us who is a physiotherapist not a consultant and he has been using the ultrasound machine too high so could potentially cause damage to the foetus. Just make sure you have checked out their credentials first, I wouldn't have even thought about it!

There are another few near us that have worked at the local hospital and are fine, but I think we are just sticking with the NHS for now unless there's any reason we want another one, maybe after the 20 week I'll want another little peek Grin

Ladymillion · 02/04/2014 13:21

Gennz my friends also guessed straightaway when I turned down the free wine on the tables at a wedding! They aren't used to seeing me without a drink in my hand obviously! Whoops.

Helen I can't help you with the BMI thing as I am the opposite... I'm a few stone overweight! My thighs are like tree trunks (bleurgh). So I'd be advised to lose weight if I was still TTC. My friend was very skinny and was TTC for a few years, she was advised to put weight on but then I know lots of people who are very slender and got pregnant easily. I think unless u are the EXTREME either way it doesn't seeeeem to matter?

I had a fright this morning girls... After the excitement of seeing the heartbeat yesterday I saw (tmi) a pinky/browny discharge on the toilet paper this morning after having a wee! Instantly panicked obviously! Midwife said to monitor it and don't worry unless it goes red, gets heavy or becomes painful. And since then I've been to the toilet a few more times and there was nothing on the toilet paper. All I can do is rest and hope that's the end of it!

Binky that is scary but I made sure I did my research before going for my scan - the place I went to is run by staff who work at the ultrasound department at the local general hospital... They opened this place due to the popular demand of extra scans so I was confident that it was a legit place and knowledgable staff.

misskgb · 02/04/2014 14:50

Thanks both. Feel better after a good old cry with dh yesterday. I just kept thinking I'm not giving my little rice krispie a good start after what the mw said. Even harder because I'm barely eating atm and when I do, its not the finest fruit or salad, its just whatever I can stomach!

I really want to tell my boss-I just feel like I need supportive people around me as I'm constantly feeling sick and/or tired. Dh is happy for me to tell her if it'll help but we said we'd wait til 12 weeks. Oooooh I don't know! !

OP posts:
binkybunny · 02/04/2014 16:07

miss if you'd feel happier telling her then do. I was so pleased I told my boss straight away as I have had many late starts early finishes and sick days. I have to have a sickness interview next week because I've had 4 sickness related days off and its taken the stress away.

lady I'm so pleased you've done the research. I was worried I'd scare you. Phew!

Ladymillion · 02/04/2014 16:11

Haha binky I have a sickness interview too! Mine's tomorrow Hmm but they know I'm pregnant so hopefully they won't be harsh!

binkybunny · 02/04/2014 17:01

I'm hoping they're nice to me too as they know I'm pregnant. Hoping they suggest I can work from home now and then which will help on yucky mornings!

KikiThePea · 02/04/2014 17:44

Hi all,

Lady I hope you've been taking it easy today then, and that all goes well from here on out.

misskgb If it will help you to have that bit of extra support then it's definitely worth telling people even it is still a bit early. I have my own business so luckily only had me to whine to about the hell of it all, but I know that there's no way I wouldn't have been able to keep it all secret if I worked for anyone else - and I know I would have loved the extra support.

Gennz I love J Brand. I've already informed DH that a pair of their maternity jeans are on the list for the next few weeks - do they fit well? I've found some of the maternity jeans to fit horribly in the legs, and read reviews about others where you spend your life pulling up the waistband! DH gets slightly fearful every time he sees me on the Seraphine website at the moment - he's not said anything yet....haha!

I agree with the comments about BMI - it's such a ridiculous set of guidelines in my opinion, simply because it doesn't take into account just how many different body types there are or the fact that muscle adds weight. I'm 5'6", a size 8-10 waist, but have been blessed/cursed with a 32G chest (I mostly go with cursed!) and my weight always goes up when I get some serious muscle toning in due to skiing - thus my BMI is actually on the higher side of normal. I once had an argument with a nurse about it because I told her unless she could magically tell me how to just get rid of the weight from my chest and nowhere else I didn't really fancy it, thanks very much! So really Helen I wouldn't worry too much about BMI - I highly doubt putting on a few pounds would do any damage though if you wanted to give it a go, but you're still in what is considered the 'normal' range.

Nothing exciting to report here. The extent of anything happening is that I really need to call my GP and ask about antihistamines - this stupid smog that's appeared, plus the 'joyous' arrival of early hayfever season means allergies have kicked in already. Bleaurgh.

KikiThePea · 02/04/2014 17:46

Gah, binky I only just read your comment properly about the midwife and the 'second child comment! How rude of her to even presume something like that!

Gennz · 02/04/2014 20:16

They are great Kiki! The legs fit a lot like the normal ones, they just have stretchy side panels. I got a size up from my normal size to make sure I could still wear them if my legs get fatter. I got skinny ones in "starless" the dark denim. I'm obsessed with maternity fashion blogs. There's so much great stuff online. I am already obsessed with putting together a maternity capsule wardrobe (can you tell I haven't been very productive at work!!) - last year when we went to the UK for 3 weeks I worked on my packing for ages (I am a shocking over-packer, when we went to Sydney I took as much for 3 days as I did to the UK for 3 weeks!) and took a couple of dresses and combos of jeans, skinny pants and various T shirts & scarfs so I am hoping to do that for my pregnancy. Most likely I will end up the size of a house and wearing a mumu!!

I am loving the blog Romy and the bunnies, though all the women on there are impossibly glam, it's not very relatable!

Ladymillion - I am going to have to tell my work sooner rather than later, we have so many drinky events and lunches on and normally I am leading the charge! I have drinks with 2 work people tonight and usually we'd share a bottle of wine so I am already trying to plan ahead as to how I can nip to the bar first and order a faux vodka and tonic. Argh! So glad I don't have any weddings to go to, me sober at a wedding would be a dead giveaway!!
