Hi I am 37 in may and have 4 children from 18 years to my youngest who is 7 in september. I am wondering does it take a while to conceive when you are older. It only took one month with my last son and I dont want to leave it too late. I have been wanting another baby for a while now and if I don't do it now then I will be too old. Do I need to go on any special diet or can anyone advise me on any books for older mums thank you

If you've already got 4 children then hopefully you're still fairly fertile. However the truth is that it can take longer to conceive when you're older, mainly because the window in each cycle when you're actually fertile and can conceive reduces considerably the older you get.

I would recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" though. It's not specifically for older mums but if you think there might be an issue it will help you look for the signs that show when you're the most fertile and then aim for sex at those times.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to get stressed about it as that can make the whole process a lot harder.

I am 38 and baby is due in July. It took 2 months to conceive. 1st month we guessed ovulation, second month we used ovulation prediction kit along with the baby ferning thingy! I was expecting it to take a while - I think fertility is very much genetic. We are still in shock! Good luck x

I'm 37 and have been trying since September. I have become slightly obsessed to the fertility calculator app! Is anybody else going by these? How long would you leave it before maybe going to get checked out?

We've been trying for.number 2 since July, also just turned 37. We conceived very quickly the first time and I just finished my first round of blood tests. My doc said for over 35 it's worth getting checked after 6 months of trying.

I've just turned 37 too and on second month of trying for Baby no.2. With first for pregnant on first try. I'm really hoping it won't take too long and have started upswing cbfm. X
