ttc and am day 33 of cycle and my usual cycle length is anything between 31 to 37 - don't want to test too early, to avoid disappointment but at same tiume, can't wait to test - how long should i wait!! Waited til day 44 for previous bfp!!

Can I be personal and ask if you are due your period now and late????? Some midwifes say that you can test 72 hours after you have made love and you think that conception has taken place...........but I have had four children and am trying for another but would never test until after my period to be totally sure.....even though some tests say they will test before your period, I would always try and be patient and test afterwards as the pregnancy hormones are greater as times goes on and the pregnancy hormones vary from person to person. Good Luck mum18772

Do you have any idea of when you ovulated? You are advised to wait until 14 days after that date. Personally I wait 12/13 days.
If you don't know then try to wait until you have gone passed 37 days if you possibly can.

No idea when I ovulate and never have done! I never have two cycles the same length from one month to the next but always seem to be anything between 29/30 days and 41 days at worst! Doesn't make life easy when ttc! At least it only took 4 months the last time to get bfp but probably pot luck!

I suppose I should be patient and wait a little longer - thanks, mummyoffour, for giving me the willpower to hold off! Will give myself til next weekend at least and then I might be tempted again!

This is only our first mopnth of ttc again since deciding we want another child so really need to be patient!

I can't believe that any test would come up positive after only 72 hours...it takes longer than that for fertilisation and then the fertilised egg has to travel down to embed into the womb lining...this all takes about a week I think at least.

The most sensitive tests say 4 days before AF (period) is due but as your cycles are irregular this is a bit tricky eh?!

It would be best to wait the length of your longest cycle before doing a test but in reality it's soooo hard to be good and wait sometimes!!

HTH.
