Tapping into any info/knowledge about Polycystic ovaries ...

Hi all I've been for a scan today as part of infertility investigation and been told I have pcos. Understand it can't be cured but any advice appreciated!

I have it too and it sucks! Thats not the medical term though apparently! Have you seen your doc have they spoke about a plan of action for you?

No I was just being cheeky asked the scanner and she said that's what she thought but blood tests will confirm. Makes sense though my cycles are all over the place and I still get acne at 30. Did they put you on medication?

I have pcos. Best thing is to cut sugar from your diet, as its insulin linked. So low carb food. For conception I had clomid, which got me pregnant :-) I was very lucky - losing weight and clomid worked very well for me.

I read about clomid, happy to try it. I have a normal bmi but could lose my Christmas lunch curves. Not really big suger eater- except for chocolate obviously!

That's great that you have a good bmi. The thing with clomid is make sure you have investigations such as hsg (to check tube blockages) first. Clomid can only work for a few cycles and no point wasting it. My levels on cd21 were 2.3 without vlomid, no sign of ovulation at all. With it i went up to 60 i think? And with sex every other day from end of my period until cd 28 i fell pregnant first time on 50mg.

Spiralactone worked miracles for my skin. Only problem is that it can cause horrible birth defects because it's an anti androgen, so most doctors insist on you having the coil or another permanent / semi permanent contraceptive.

My skin was awful and it sorted in right out. Things improved after giving birth and I can now mange it with antibiotics and azalaic acid.

Wow that sounds promising. Didn't realise you only get quick go at it. I've one more blood test then seeing consultant so I'll cut out sugar - choc and ice cream til then.

I have had 3 rounds of clomid and no bfp yet it has kicked off natural periods and im ttc without it now but I have a prescription if they stop before my next hospital appointment in april. Im not overweight but im very conscious of it now I know what is wrong with me!

Apologies- part of my message seems to have vanished and the bit that remains seems a bit odd in the context of the post....

After coming off Spiralactone I was TTC for a while- success with clomid (twice). I also found maintaining a healthy bmi and cutting out as much sugar and booze as possible helped.

It is possible!

Acupuncture really helped me - it regulated my irregular cycles from 45 days plus to a steady 31/32 days within a couple of months, which means hormones had been regulated and much more healthy for TTC. Have to have it weekly though...

Hi I have pcos. Confirmed by blood tests and scan but no tube test thing. I've been given 4 months of clomid and I start taking it today so fingers crossed. Don't think my dh could survive every other day for a month lol

Ji skylar have you considered taking clomid at night? It can mean minimising the side effects as you will sleep through them

Yes, what quietlysuggests says. I had poly cystic ovaries on a scan but when tested I didn't have any other markers - so I didn't have pcos. That was 10 years ago but I had a scan recently & I didn't have poly cystic ovaries anymore either.

Follow a low GI/GL eating plan can help with PCOS (not low carb) but no one therapy or treatment will ever eradicate it.

There is a fine line between polycystic ovaries and PCOS itself (PCOS is basically the polycystic ovaries with one or two other indicators like a degree of hirsuitism or irregular periods).

It is a VERY individualistic disorder that affects each woman with it very differently. Also not all PCOSers are infact insulin resistant which is another conumdrum.

BTW SkylerRose - I note you start taking clomid today. I sincerely hope they are planning on monitoring you because this is quite powerful stuff and no monitoring is unacceptable.

The cystic follicles associated with PCO can disappear - only to be replaced by further cystic follicles. It can be controlled to some extent but not cured.

Just remembered I had acupuncture through my clomid cycle too. Wasn't for fertility but might not be coincidence (I swear by acupuncture for many things)

Clomid is very powerful and should be monitored by cd21 bloods at the very least, ideally by scans too. He reason for checking tubes first is because if there is a problem it is pointless getting the ovulation working if the tubes are blocked.

We had a plan from the offset with our consultant - scans, hsg, clomid, icsi and then ivf. Luckily we fell with clomid.

Ds2 was just a bloody surprise. He somehow conceived when I hadn't had a period in three months and ds1 was nine months old or so.

Thanks for your advice ladies, I've virtually knocked alcohol on the head so I'll cut out all together. Don't have fizzy pop or sugar in tea but I guess sugar is hidden in everything now. Feels good to move forward with diagnosis but daunted there is no cure . If it's possible to ttc we'll keep going. Would take clomid every day and have triplets if they'd let me lol!

Great advice already given,
I have PCOS from the age of 17 I am not 25.. I would recommend Inositol - Purchased from Holland and Barrett - It's amazing Me and hubby had unprotected sex for 3 years and nothing, I took this at the start of July and period arrives 20th July and then 28th Aug I got my BFP... That's the only thing I can put it down too. We sadly lost him at 19 weeks. But I am again taking it.
Google the results so many positive stories!

This was mentioned as a possibility to me at my appointment with the fertility clinic from blood results last month but have to wait until May for scans. (Unless we can get pg by then and avoid it!)

It was/is awful but I am greatful that I even had the opportunity to have him and I have a gorgeous angel baby looking after me, if it wasnt for those tablets I wouldnt of had him and been struggling for a year before going to the gos I hope it works for you, I use another forum and the girl that told me about it is 24 weeks pregnant
