I've been reading that some women should take a higher dose of folic acid, I'm about 3 stone overweight so I think I need to really.

Any recommendations for where to get the higher dose one from please?

If your BMI is over 30 you should have the higher dose, I think it has to be prescribed but I just took 12 of the little ones.

I was prescribed it, but the chemist couldn't get hold of it for some reason so I ended up buying the normal ones and having a handful every day! I think it was 10 or 12 of them.

Older mothers, and/or anyone with any autoimmune problems (or suspected autoimmune problems, sign of which can be repeated miscarriage), can benefit from a higher dose.

I was told by my consultant to take the folic acid all the time before pregnancy, and until the end of the second trimester.
I was also told to take a mini aspirin from the day I got a positive test until 32 weeks (it may have been 34 weeks).
He advised that to all of his older mothers because both are anti inflammatory, and the ability to process folic acid reduced with age, which may be to do with undiagnosed autoimmune issues and blood factors we tend to develop in later life...

After many mc, when I started that regime, my next pregnancy was successful and is now a 3year old DC!

Very interesting, high dose folic acid and aspirin are things I'm adding to the list for my GP tomorrow. Getting results from 15 vials of blood!

Oh I see, thanks, I can order 5mg folic acid from amazon but maybe I should book an appointment with my gp for a chat.
