Can I Eat All The Stuff I Like Every 2 Weeks Until Pregnant?

I LOVE cheese and alcohol and caffeine all the stuff you're not supposed to have while pregnant.

If I started trying to conceive then I suppose I shouldn't have any of this stuff between doing the deed and the first day of my period, just in case I have got pregnant. But when my period comes and I'm not pregnant then I guess I'm ok to go out and get pissed before trying again next month, right?

So could ttc involve shagging, then not eating any of the bad cheese or having any wine or anything until my period, then when I bleed I can get rat arsed, eat all the bad things and generally have a good time again until my next fertile days when I need to get shagging again?

Tell me that's how it works, and not that I have to give up all the stuff I like (apart from the shagging Grin from when I start ttc until after the birth after I finish breastfeeding if I breastfeed, which could be YEARS from now Sad

Obviously I'll do it if I have to do it, I'm just wondering how sad to get over possibly my last beer and slice of Brie for a very long time.

Drink til it's pink :)

You can drink alcohol and breastfeed, as long as you are sober enough to look after a baby. That's a big bit of misinformation that goes around. You can also eat anything you like whilst breastfeeding, unless your baby has allergies.

I personally wouldn't make any lifestyle changes until I knew I was pregnant either.

Ive not cut anything out yet and wont until im pregnant. Im eating healthier but not cut out junk or alcohol until i have a positive hpt.

There isnt any point changing things too early in case it takes a while :)

If you're in the USA (like me) then should you even go near alcohol whilst ttc/pregnant you are likely to be taken outside and stoned.

Junk food (particularly as a snack whilst waiting for a scan and filling the entire waiting room with the stench of a burrito at 10am-) is totally fine.

Hmm

I'd be much less worried about the odd glass of wine than about filling your body with crap.

Damn those -!!

I didn't give up anything until I got the blue line in the window.

Why would you stop until you know? As long as you aren't doing class A, I really don't think you have any issues just carrying on with your life, and making changes when you need to...

How weird. Most people don't even know they are pregnant until it occurs to them to test...

Cultural norms do vary. When I was pg with dd1 in mainland Europe, the odd glass of wine was quite ordinary. When I moved to North America and was pg with ds1, I thought the ob gyn was going to have a coronary if I even mentioned alcohol whilst with child.

In Scotland, pg with dd2, I couldn'ae understand a word anyone said to me, so it was all good. Grin

I would eat as normal and drink as normal (provided your normal is moderate! ) until I got a positive result.

You can eat basically anything and drink moderately when breastfeeding too.

Sorry for the double post.

There isn't any shared blood supply until well after a +ve test so I would just carry on as normal until you strike it lucky. TTC can be absolutely torturous and take a long time without giving up all the things you love for half of every month. And I second that drinking while breastfeeding is also fine so long as you are still sober enough to look after the baby. The only change I would make would be to start taking daily Folic Acid. Good luck!

i think getting wasted every night for 2 weeks each month would not help your chances of conception, but if you did conceive, there would be no risk to the babe. actually you can carry on drinking a bit for the first 6 weeks as the placenta isn't formed and so nothing actually crosses over to the baby (it lives off the goodness of the egg). heavy drinking during those 6 weeks will increase risk of miscarriage though.

Phew ok, I wasn't planning to go crazy anyway but it sounds like I don't need to worry about changing anything right now so that's great. Brie and wine tonight for me then Grin
