Hello,

I wonder if any one could give me some advise...

I have a 2 and half year old dd who I concieved within 7 months of coming off the contraceptive jab. Normal pregnancy and birhth.

I have been off the pill since Sept 05 and found out I was pregnant in November, but miscarried at 5 weeks 4 days. Then I fell again in May but miscarried at 6 weeks.

Is it normal to have miscarriages after a normal baby, and do you think I am ever likely to have another child? Ive read that a miscarriage so early is because the embryo hasnt formed correctly, so if I do have another child, will there be a risk of something being wrong with it?

Sorry for all the questions, its just every month I so wish to be preganat, and Ive been so over joyed when I have been.... Now I wish to be but am scared of losing it again.

Swift sorry to hear about your losses. Many many women have miscarraiges and go on to have normal healthy pregnancies, for many women there is no real reason for it. If you go on to have a 3rd miscarraige then you should be referred to a consultant at that point for investigations but it may just be that you have been very unlucky.
AFAIK unless there is a clear reason found as to why you have miscarried then there is no reason you shouldn't go on to have another perfect baby.Being afraid of further miscarraige is totally normal but keep on trying!

LaylaandSethsmum is absolutely right, Swift. I know how devastating miscarriage is, but you have probably just been unlucky (you absolutely should get medical advice if it happens again, though). the vast majority of women who have two miscarriages go on to have a normal pregnancy.

Best of luck x

swift1, so sorry to hear about your miscarriages.

I had a m/c with my first pg, then had two normal pg but with fourth pg, I had early mc (a little later than you). I was really shocked, as I thought that having had two normal pg, my body 'knew what to do'. Then, like you, I feared that there was something wrong with the baby.

I fell pg again in Feb and am now just over 6 months. The 20 week scan was absolutely normal, so crossed fingers baby is fine. I rather got the impression that nobody really knows why early m/c happen - unless you go for full investigation as laylaandsethsmum suggests. I've found it hard to relax and enjoy this pg as much as previous pg because I've been so scared of losing it - but there is loads of support on MN if you need it, just ask.

Best wishes and good luck
