Best way to conceive...advice needed from mums

Hi. I'm new to the site and need some advice. So me and my husband have been trying to conceive for a couple of years with no success. I've had some unrelated health problems which I don't think has helped. My question is, how many of you did the things supposed to help you get pregnant? E.g. Legs in the air after sex, not getting up for half an hour, raising bum in the air, etc. I've been doing all this but wondering if it's necessary. Thank you!

give up coffee!

Sorry, I'll be lynched for that as it's not scientific.

MrsGranny · 26/01/2014 20:39

I don't drink coffee lol

This month I used balance active on most fertile days. First time using it on 5th cycle and worked!!!

hoppinghare · 26/01/2014 20:42

I did the legs in the air after sex. We conceived very quickly. Of course, I have no idea whether the 2 were related. It can't hurt though so I'd keep it up if I were you.

threepiecesuite · 26/01/2014 20:43

I'm 2 years trying too. Doing all the usual things to no avail! Beginning some investigations this month.
Got a dd who is 4 but nothing happening this time.

Writerwannabe83 · 26/01/2014 21:06

Another one here who kept her legs up in the air for a good 10-20 minutes after sex Smile We conceived very quickly but it may have been completely coincidental.

If there is anything these forums have taught me it is that there is no logic, sense, or fairness when it comes to conception. I don't know whether it's unpredictability can even be 'helped along' by various methods or whether it's just down to pure luck sometimes.

You need a referral as a couple.

Legs in the air post sex is a myth that gets banded about so its unnecessary. Enough sperm will get to the cervix from where it cannot escape.

Sex two or three times a week throughout the month is fine.

If you have been ttc now for a couple of years without success you should really now be investigated as a couple. It is likely that one or equally both of you have contributed to the subfertility. Seek medical advice.

I conceived quickly I was opking and I dtd 4 times that week with a 2 or 3 times either side of the week. I did put legs raised on one occasion but could have been pregnant by that point. I would suggest getting some medical advice I thought ud just share my thoughts

Not sure if this is true or something I just made up... But if men have poor sperm quality sex everyday is best as you get 'fresh' sperm. And if they have low sperm count better to save it up for a while before delivery!

Saving up for a week before what my dh called the sniper shot (!) worked for us after 8 cycles of unsucessful trying when we had dtd every 2 days. For dd2 we went straight to this tactic and success 1st cycle.

nearlyreadyforstatelyhomes · 27/01/2014 03:39

We had sex earlier in my cycle than we thought we needed to both times. Second time I was using opks and hadn't got a positive for OV yet we'd already been at it, then didn't get a chance the rest of the month - but then didn't need to!

tracypenisbeaker · 27/01/2014 03:54

My OH says we have DS because i didnt get up after we had sex. I told OH we have DS because we had sex.

Jaz78 · 27/01/2014 10:22

I agree that you probably need a referral. Sex two or three times a week does help things along.

I suppose the best thing you can do is try to relax, things always happen when they are meant to. I know it is hard, but don't lose faith. I remember when we were trying for a baby a couple of years ago and that was the only thing that helped. We now have a very lively 7 month old.

Good luck xx

moggle · 27/01/2014 11:20

I agree that it is probably time for a referral, unless you know of a problem eg that you really aren't having that much sex :-)
As for the 'relax' advice- I know it's always well meant, but people who offer this advice never go on to tell you HOW to relax when the one thing that you want is eluding you month after month. How do you forget you are TTC?!!

Armadale · 27/01/2014 11:24

I was advised by the consultant not to do the whole legs in the air/ lying around thing- apparently the strong swimmers will get there anyway, there is a reason why the weaker ones struggle and making it downhill for them reduces this natural sorting method meaning a less ideal sperm might fertilise.

We do it every 2nd day from day 8 to day 22 when TTC, but I know people who do it only on their most fertile day, and others who do it everyday. I think different things seem to work for different people.

I would second asking for a referral, you can still carry on trying whilst waiting for it to come through.

specialsubject · 27/01/2014 11:29

gravity is irrelevant for this one, as all those who think 'you can't get pregnant if you are standing up' will know.

I'm afraid you need investigation.

eurochick · 27/01/2014 11:29

I think you are past the old wives' tale stage and need to move to investigations. For example, if your tubes are blocked and the eggs cannot get through, no position is going to help you! (But drs should be able to.)

Honeybear30 · 27/01/2014 12:02

I'm really not sure I believe this whole legs in the air thing. How do people get pregnant so frequently without otherwise?!

We managed to conceive by dtd every other day from about day 8 to about day 17. But we did dtd immediately when I had ov pain and ewcm (just lucky we were at home I guess). And, sorry if tmi, but I always had to run immediately to the loo after dtd as nothing seemed to want to stay 'in'. We conceived cycle 3. So I don't see that you need to put your legs in the air and hold the whole lot in.

MrsGranny · 27/01/2014 21:07

Thanks everyone Smile we've both been to doctors and had tests done. OH was fine, and one of my tests came back normal. The other has to be done on a certain day of my cycle but because I'm so irregular I can't determine that day, so don't know if that test is ok or not. Gonna try for 6 more months then go back to drs I think. Really appreciate all the advice and experiences
