I have tested 9 days early (I know, but I can,t resist it!)it was a clear blue which showed neg but where there would have been a line going across there is a little point, I mean a couple of dots going up, is this anything or not?

what do you mean by 9 days early?

when did you ovulate? when did you test?

dots are nothing btw .. sorry

threebob · 29/07/2006 09:52

The line for the result or the control line?

lancarra · 29/07/2006 09:56

It was the result line and nine days before af due.

yes but how long is your cycle and when did you ovulate ? you could ovulate say CD8 and not be due on till CD28 say and then it would have been ok to test because would still be 10 days post ovulation IYSWIM

alternatively you could ovulate CD20 and be due on CD30 in which case it would have been a day after ovualting

they talk about a faint line being a positive, just that the faintness of it meaning that the level of hormones is not that high yet. I know all about faint lines - have had my fair share of holding them up in the window and squinting in disbelieve, getting DH to double check it hourly and then retesting every few hours or so until it "thickens up"!!
I have no idea about a couple of spots. However, it is very very very early!! The only thing you can do is try to wait a bit longer. I think it would be cruel to allow yourself to get too excited over a couple of dots as it could mean nothing. However, don?t feel down about it as well because I don?t think there is a test on the market that will indicate only 5 days after conception and so all would give a negative regardless of whether you are actually pregnant or not.
Hang in there and test again at the end of the next week. x

I am afraid there is a difference between a line and a couple of dots ... the dots could easily have been overspill from the control line ..I am really sorry I know how difficult it is when all you want is a positive but you have to wait for a LINE

and you ahve to wait till 10 days post ovulation to test

LemonTart · 29/07/2006 10:11

twiglett, I thought it was the first part of the cycle - pre ovulation - that wanders around from person to person and that once ovulation had taken place, the second part of the cycle is pretty much set in length. This is how I worked out my ovulation days from my long and erratic periods. Frustrating doing it in reverse but proved very accurate for me. Have I been mislead all of this time?!!!

Twiglett · 29/07/2006 10:21

yes .. sorry

the oft quoted 14 days is statistical average .. hence not necessarily accurate for any individual woman

ridiculous isn't it how it seeps into our psyche so we believe it

as long as your post-luteal phase (period between ovulating and start of next period) is over 10 days you have chance of conceiving ..

JennyLee · 29/07/2006 12:36

Lemontart don't mean to high jack this thread, but you said you know all about faint lines and well..I just think I saw a faint line on one of those very cheap dipstick things, I am on day 37 of my cycle am I just crazy? or are them cheapy ones just crap? does anyone know?lol

JennyLee · 29/07/2006 14:35

JennyLee · 29/07/2006 15:03

I tested again yesterday on a cheap test stick it looked neg 3hrs later a feint line ! A boots test showed a feint line straight away, I did wonder as I have been having vivid dreams every night for 10 days!An odd symptom I know! This will be my 4th.

unfortunately you should throw away tests after use because the result can change after a few hours. It is only accurate initially. Sorry. Maybe test again in a few days.

laughalot · 01/08/2006 11:00

Lancarra I did a boots test and had a very faint faint line straight away I am now 17 weeks xxxx

Beccy1974 · 01/08/2006 11:12

i had a v faint line on an early response on sat; day 27 of a 31 day cycle.

repeated later that day with one of the + symbol clearblues and bfn but i keep looking at the er test & can still see the v v THIN faint line; it is pink.

am really getting tetchy today as all advice (including DH's) is not to test until / if i'm late.

can i rely on the thin faint thin line? maybe i peed on it too much???

so frustrating isn't it

lancarra · 01/08/2006 14:59

I have just done a clear blue digital it says pregnant!I just had to make sure!it is still 4 days until af due.

OP posts:
Beccy1974 · 01/08/2006 15:16

congrats lancarra - well done BFP

is it your first?

congrats again

shhhh · 01/08/2006 15:34

I only use the clear blue digital tests as basically there's no "am I aren't I"...

It's a straight YES or NO..!! . I used them each time I found out I was expecting. Congrats BTW..!!!

lancarra · 01/08/2006 16:05

No not my first, 4th!!

OP posts:
Scoobydooooo · 01/08/2006 16:18

Wow congratulations so pleased for you, no 4 you must be mad

hotmama · 01/08/2006 16:21

Congrats lancarra!

A positive is a positive.

Shhh - you can get false negatives. I used cb digital and it showed negative - twice - dd2 is now 25 weeks!

shhhh · 01/08/2006 20:33

hotmama but suppose thats the case with all tests.. What I was trying to say is you get a straight answer, you are not holding the stick in different directions trying to see if it's got a line or not iykwim..(although as you say it may not always be correct..BUT tbh I haven't heard of any false neg's apart from yours on CB dig..)

Lancarra...4......Nothing but admiration for you...!!
