Hi everyone,

I have literally just recd some cheap amazon OPK's so thought id do one today even though I'm only day 9 of my cycle!! Going to use CB when I'm nearer ovulation time.

Anyway.. I got a faint line which I find strange as my cycle is quite long so I shouldn't be ovulating for nearly two weeks! So I'm a bit confused about that... ?

Also they didn't come with any instructions so I'm not sure how long I need to leave them for before I check the line. Does anyone else use these and have any advice?

Thank you all :) xx

Hi,
I have amazon ones and I seem to get a faint line every time! I've just bought some clear blue ones though so going to use them this month instead and see if it makes a difference.

I bought first step from amazon and they're great. You get one line at the top to show its working and then a line underneath when you're ovulating. I used OPKs twice a day as I'd read ovulation could sometimes be as little as 12 hours and, for the first time, I wanted to chart my cycle properly. I couldn't justify the cost of clearblues as I knew I'd need Clearblue for the TWW.

Hope that helps. If they are one step let me know and will send you scan of my instructions?!

I got a faint line for a couple of days before my dark line but no other time, but I did read that some people have a small amount of the hormone it detects all the time so it may be that. It's only detected the surge you are testing for if it's darker than the control line. Dip it in for 10 secs then leave it flat for a few minutes. Also use afternoon pee!

They are great coz they're so cheap you can quite happily test a few times a day and not worry.

How long is your cycle?.

I would not be using OPks at all if the menstrual cycle is irregular in nature as these can give false positive readings.

These tests are great but they aren't read like pregnancy tests . Faint lines are there most of the time because you have low levels of the hormone all the time. Its only positive when the test line is as dark, or darker than the control line.

Hi i bought ones from amazon mine say one one step mine came with instructions and the line has to be as dark or darker for it to be positive i get faint lines right through my cycle hope that helps.

Meant to say as dark or darker than the control line

Attilla do they really? I just bought 100 OV test strips (not an OPKit) to test throughout my really long cycle up to twice a day. Have I wasted my money?

OP a faint 2nd line is a negative on Ov test. Keep testing each day until the 2nd line is darker than the control line.
To test use them between 11am -8pm ish (afternoon is better than morning). Pee in a cup. Wait for wee to cool to room temp. Dip test strip then lie flat and set an alarm for 10 mins. Check result.
