Fertility clinics will tell you that Day 1 of your cycle is the first day you see bright red blood. If the red blood appears after 3pm then you count the next day as Day 1.

A variation of 4/5 days per cycle is well within normal ranges so don't stress too much. My natural cycles have varied between 28 and 100+ days!

You've not been off the pill for very long. Could just be your cycle settling down. If you aren't yet I would suggest temperature taking as you may be able to pinpoint your cycles better.

i bought the CBFM and thought it would help intead on temperture taking? just dont know when to start using it now? :(

You're better off using the two together - temperature charting cannot tell you if you are about to ovulate, it can only tell you once it has already happened. The CBFM can tell you that you are likely to ovulate, but again it is not totally reliable as your body can gear up for ovulation without actually achieving it. I tried the CBFM for 4 cycles and it only managed to identify my peak fertility days in one cycle, despite blood tests confirming I had ovulated every time.

Frank, I've asked about AF starting different times of the day and a lot of people didn't agree with it.

FrankelInFoal · 05/01/2014 09:26

I can only go by what I was told by my fertility clinic, that was their policy.

eurochick · 05/01/2014 09:50

My fertility clinic had a similar policy to frank's.

For my own records I've always just used chronological days, so if it starts before midnight, that's day 1, but that's not how my clinic or other clinics count it.

I would say brown discharge =/= period anyway.
