Anyone had a lost IUD?

Feeling a bit apprehensive after my GP couldn't find the strings to remove my IUD. I have been referred for an ultrasound but I want it out pronto so I can conceive DC3! Had an IUD in between DC1 & DC2 without any issues.

I expelled one in a blood clot, but I felt it.

There is a Mirena thread on here where another poster expelled hers without knowing.

A scan will clear it all up anyway.

I don't think I have expelled it although I have quite a high pain threshold with my cervix (GP was rooting around for ages) so maybe I haven't noticed?!

Initially my cervix was tucked away behind my public bone & she thought she saw strings, but when she pulled it down she could no longer see them so not sure if she saw them in first place or if they moved up when the cervix moved? Hmm.

How quickly can they arrange the scan?

I use a GYN-OB so they have the Ultrasound in the next room. Assuming you'll need a hospital appt? How frustrating op. especially as you've built up mentally to getting it removed and the discomfort etc.

Thanks for the sympathy! The GP dictated a letter while I was in the room & she said it would be a few weeks. Really hope it's soon as would like to know where it is PLUS want to be pregnant soon!

My strings went AWOL so was referred to a specialist clinic to have it removed under ultrasound. The scan found it straight away, it had shifted higher up into my uterus and the strings had become wrapped around the device itself. It was uncomfortable having it removed, I won't lie, but I was just relieved to have it our so TTC could begin. I was pregnant five weeks later Smile Good luck with your appointment but be prepared for a wait. My GP didn't actually put the referral through for almost 2 weeks, despite telling me she would do it straight away, and when I rang the Clinic myself to chase up my appointment I was told they had a 9 week waiting list.

Had my appointment today for what I thought would be an ultrasound - it wasn't, it was just the gynae feeling around for the strings, lo & behold he couldn't find them either. Luckily the ultrasound clinic is tomorrow, but this whole process is taking ages & I want to be pregnant!
