Starting ttc but nervous about spd recurring

Dd is 14 months old and we are about to start ttc dc2. However I'm already dreading pregnancy and what seems to be the inevitable onset of spd - I had really bad hip pain when pregnant and have only recently recovered and become pain free.

I have taken up yoga in an effort to strengthen my body and I'm going to lose a few pounds so am not carrying extra weight, but is there anything else I can do now to help prevent spd when I do get pregnant? Or do I just have to put up with it?

I'm no expert, and I'm really sorry to be negative, but I had it with both kids and it started earlier with my second. When I discussed it with my gynaecologist, I was told it is totally normal for SPD to get worse with each successive pregnancy.

But, on the positive side, it didn't get much worse for me, it just started earlier. I was waddling like a penguin by 4 months, even though I was barely showing... Confused

A weird thing that really did make a difference for me is that I spent one night on a fairly cheap foam mattress. It was the best night's sleep I had throughout my entire pregnancy. It might be because it was too soft to push back on my hips or something. I'm not sure. All I know is I was far more comfortable on that mattress (at someone else's house) than on the one we had on our bed, which was much more supportive overall.

Doing yoga and other strengthening exercises can only be a good thing, pregnant or not, but I don't know if they help for SPD. They might do.

Good luck and my thoughts are with you! It's over in 9 months and then you have a LO, which makes it worth it... :)

I had bad SPD with ds1 from about 28 weeks and found that hard, but 2nd time round I was on crutches from 20 weeks and honestly could hardly leave the house from then and only getting worse until ds2 arrived.

I hope its because there was only a 6 month gap between me getting pregnant for the 2nd time but the thought of going through it again is putting me off TTC no 3 as I dont think I could cope again with 2 toddlers to look after!

Both my boys were back to back the whole pregnancy and I think thats part of the reason although I dont have anything to compare it do x
