Chemical Pregnancy ... advice and support

Hi Ladies x

I hope you don't mind me starting this thread here or if it needs to be moved to somewhere more appropriate.

I got a BFP on Friday 27th on a CB digi (showing 1-2) and on IC tests. This was me 1 day before I was due AF.

After this I did another test and it came up negative and on Saturday and Sunday using FMU both digi's came up negative :-( My doc has confirmed that his test also came up negative and I have requested a blood test.

The confusion I have now is there is no sign of AF, I am still getting pregnancy symptoms and have no cramps. I am now also technically 3 days late. I wish I knew what my body was doing.

Anyways apart from my body throwing me confusing signs, I have noticed there is not a lot of support for people who have gone through this or have experienced chemical pregnancies, well no a lot past 2005 as per Dr Google.

If you have experienced this, could you please post below. Even if it is to help someone in the future to understand x

Pinky x

I had a cp last cycle in November. I had a +ve day after period was due and 2 days later line was fainter, next day -ve and I started bleeding that afternoon.

In my case I think the embryo implanted too late so the endometrium wasn't receptive and this was reason for the late +ve hpt - I was using 10 microlitre sensitive tests. There is a window of only a few days when the embryo can implant and early implanters are much more likely to lead to a successful pregnancy.

I think chemical pregnancies are extremely common and only a worry if you have several in succession as this might be indicative of an underyling problem. For me, I was just so glad I was able to get pregnant, even for just a little while. I'm 30 and we started trying in July, so I was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong.

The worst thing actually was having to untell the midwife, she seemed really sad and said she hoped we'd get to meet soon.

I've had 2 in the last 11 months, both times AF was late, did a test, BFP then spotting within a couple of days and symptoms stopping leading to full blown MC. Both at 5/6 weeks. Added up I've only been confirmed pregnant for about 4 days. Hmm

Hey, this happened to me last month I was sure I was pregnant had all the signs then got a faint BFP and was delighted left it two days and was hoping for stronger lines then it was bfn - heartbreaking. The doctor said it happens it and I only knew about it because I was being so vigilant with tests most ppl just think it's a heavy period after being a few days late . He didn't seem that supportive tbh kinda like I shouldn't be bothered by it but when your desperate to see those lines I can testify it does really matter xx big hugs xx

I've just had 2 chemicals in a row and now pregnant again, this time I had a nice strong line

Hi Perks. I'm so sorry.
I had one in September. Dr also told me that normally women wouldn't even know about it. I had an mc in June, which was devastating.
After the cp I told myself to not actually think of it as a BFP, since I bled a lot but didn't actually 'pass' anything, unlike the first time.
It still hurts. And I know if it happens again it would probably mean I have a problem. But right now it helps me to think this way.
Good luck. May 2014 end with you full of happiness and joy.
Big hug.

Sorry to all of you that have been through this.

Ive had 2 consecutive chemical pregnancies recently. Found out in a round about way though. Got a heavy period at end of October when I would have been due, but felt unwell with preg syptoms a few days later, took a preg test which was a strong positive. Went to gp and had blood test which confirmed I'd been pregnant. Fell pregnant again in November (blood tests showed hcg rose again) but then dropped again and i got my period at end of November. Not been trying in December as been having bloods monitored until the hgc level was all the way back to below 10 (negative), which it now is, so we are going to start ttc again now.

Ive seen both my gp and been at the Early Pregnancy Unit and they have been great, but like above have told me it happens so very often, but usually ladies dont even realise and you only know if you're trying and testing early. Doesn't make it any less disappointing though does it, just because it's common. Good luck to all you ladies hoping for successful pregnancies in 2014 for you all xx

Thanks ladies for your advice and support x AF turned up this morning and is very heavy :-( Tad this is what I am trying to tell my minds eye that I was not pregnant but all I keep remembering is the CB 1-2 :-(

I wanted to start this thread as not only because I am now experiencing this for myself but for a lot of people who go through this all they can experience is not a lot of support.

Here is to 2014 and our BFP's xx

Pink - the first time it happened to me I tried to brush it off and say it was just a few cells and not really a baby, was protecting myself but was devastated. My therapist made me admit to how I felt and said it was good to have a cry and be sad about the loss, it's ok to feel like that. This time I've let myself be sad and it's been a bit easier. Don't belittle the BFP!

We WERE pregnant and we WILL be again! And it will be better! Smile

Hey Ladies, Just saw the post and thought I would comment. We have been tcc since June/July and was constantly getting BFN. Got my first EVER BFP in November. I didn't believe it at first as it was very faint so I thought it was an evap. I didn't tell DH and like other ladies decided to wait a couple of days and retest. I made it to the following evening when I went to the bathroom and discovered spotting and a big jelly blob (sorry tmi I know) it scared me but after much googling it seemed fairly normal and some women just got it some cycles for others it was a sign of pregnancy. As the bleeding got a bit heavier so my hope faded but I did retest after and it was a BFN. The biggest problem for me was I felt ill and was so very HORMONAL - evil in fact. Plus my stomach was super bloated and sore and right up until AF in December I had people looking at my stomach and even patting it - it was horrible. My GP really isn't the best but on this occasion he was super sweet and said if it happened a couple more times he may start me on some drugs (I wasn't keen on the idea of medication).

What my GP did say was that it is very common and does happen for various reasons but he noted I ovulate quite late in the cycle. I usually have a 28-31 day cycle but ovulate on day 16-19 which only gives around 10 days for implantation which isn't impossible but not ideal. On the plus side a friend of mine has just found out she is pregnant after two chemical pregnancies but she did start medication to bring her ovulation forward. Good luck all and stay strong it WILL happen xx
