for about 2 years now I have noticed a change in AF. Prior to this I always had a day of 'old blood' and then start properly the next day. 2 years ago i started 'barely spotting' two days before starting properly.
My current period I started with a mucousy spotting one day, 1 day of bright red and then just very light (dark browny/red). sorry iff tmi but I usually need a tampon for a couple of days, this time I only used two in total and that was on the morning of day 1 only.
I have asked gp's about this in the past and they just say its down to my age.
What concerns me is that AF is the breaking down of the uterus wall. If I don't bleed a lot in a particular month does that mean my uterus wall might not have been sufficiently thick.

ps. have just finished course of chlomid.

Interesting. I am convinced that my AFs have been different since being on clomid but not really linked it before.

Sorry I have nothing useful to say but you have made me think!!

Such changes can also be due to underlying hormonal imbalances. Is this why you've been given the clomid?.

Clomid encourages the ovaries to work harder. It is often given as a first line of treatment to women who present with either polycystic ovaries or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

I would not think this has anything to do with your age. Any changes in periods should be checked out by a gynae - some GPs are very ignorant when it comes to such problems. Spotting should always be checked out by a medical person.

thanks for your comments. I have mentioned this to two seperate consultants. one said that inital spotting is due to a fibroid that I have and my last consultant says it could be hormonal.

I was prescribed chlomid for no other reason than to give my ovaries a boost. I have 'unexplained infertility'

This AF is my 4th of chlomid (and last!).

Apart from a slightly elevated fsh my hormone levels have been tested as normal.

I have mentioned it to my gp before now and she said that periods can change all the time but if you always bled for at least two full days isn't 1 day not enough.

p.s coggy how have your AF been different?

I have been prescribed clomid for 'unexplained fertility' also. It worked for me 2 years ago after 3 months on it and then one month of not taking it!!

I have had 2 more months worth and next month will be my last 'official' month.

My AF seems to take much longer to come....annoying because I convinced myself I am pg. I have about a week's worth of AF cramps on and off..whereas before I had only a couple of hours notice.

I also seem to start very light and then have it heavier after a couple of days. Used to be heavy for 3 days and then peter off.

I also had 27 - 28 day cycles before clomid and now have ranged from 25 - 32!!! MOST frustrating as all of these changes are similar to pg signs!!!
Aaaaaarrggh each month!!!

Can I join in, Im 35, and I noticed a change in AF from around last Aug through to this month. It had always been 5 days with a crampy warning sign that lasted a few hours. Then last August, the cramps went on for days, then dark dark brown mucus spotting(sorry for graphics)for 7 days, then that was it over. Since then the cramps have lasted about 2 days before AF, then some brown staining then dark brown/red for 3 days.

I had a lap and dye test in June, and all of a sudden I have returned to the 2 hour warning and to my delight a "normal" AF.

Im hoping that the poking around in there has sorted me out, and this along with the clomid might help me get a bfp!!

haven't had period pains of any kind since I was 24 and went on the pill! not been on it for 4 years and still no sign of any cramps, I'm not complaining though.
The brown mucousy spotting sounds very familiar though. The chlomid appears to have changed my cycle by about a day (I used to have 27/28 days cycle but been 29 on the chlomid). Am on day 5 of current cycle and been getting just a light brown staining yesterday and today.
DD1 your AF definitely sounds like it was unusual and maybe there was an underlying prob that the lap and dye sorted out. I've never had a lap and dye but have had several internal scans which didn't appear to show anything out of the ordinary.
I'm convinced its the chlomid and will be interesting to see what happens this cycle as I have not taken it. 4 months of chlomid hasn't worked for me and not willing to take it anymore.
Hope it works for you
