When to take Folic Acid?

I'm currently TTC, so my nice GP has given me some Folic Acid

Trouble is, I'm rubbish at remembering to take it - so my question is, when is it best to take it - all the time, or just during the 2WW (and thereafter if I'm pg obviously)??

you are supposed to start it 3 months prior to conceiving and up to the 12th week of pregnancy

eurochick · 18/12/2013 13:12

What ilove said.

CosyTeaBags · 18/12/2013 13:15

So you take it all the time then? Not just during 2WW?

I need to find a way to remember to take it, I just feel so hopeless that I'll never conceive so sometimes it feels futile.

Do you have a smartphone? There is an app called DoseCast which you can set up to send you a reminder to take it at the same time each day. I use it, it's very useful.

eurochick · 18/12/2013 13:18

Yes, all the time.

I've been taking it for 3 pointless fecking years...

I keep mine next to the breakfast cereal and take it when I have my breakfast. Could you try something like that?

CosyTeaBags · 18/12/2013 13:20

I don't have a Smartphone, but that does sound very useful.

I tried putting the vitamins in the Teabag drawer, since I go there at least 10 times a day... might need to write a big "EAT ME" on the packet to catch my eye!

X Post with Eurochick - Cereal cupboard might be a good choice!

Thank you

On the plus side, my nails have been better than ever before.

CosyTeaBags · 18/12/2013 13:26

Oh really? I did wonder whether there are any other benefits to it!

My nails are crap ... could be an indication of vit deficiency, so all the more reason to take it I guess..

Thanks everyone

Try this Ionic liquid iron supplement ionic makes it possible for the body to absorb it easly so it dosent just pass through your gut. my wife used it to combat anemia

TwoThreeFourSix · 18/12/2013 16:49

Or put it next to your toothbrush and take it mornings or evenings?

Armadale · 18/12/2013 16:52

yes mine sits on top of the toothpaste, so it gets done first thing.

eurochick , commiserations. I'm coming up to 3 years now too, sigh. I dread to think what I have spent on folic acid and those conception vitamins over the three years.
