2 missed pills, a celebratory weekend and sore boobs!

Ok, here goes...as a mother to two ds's, you'd think I'd be up to speed on this kind of stuff by now!

Last Saturday (7th dec) I realised that I'd missed two pills on Thursday and Friday (qlaira) so took two on Saturday. This means that Thursday's was missed altogether. Qlaira has a different set of rules with regards to missed pills but in essence, I should have used alternative protection for nine days after one missed pill according to the instructions.

It was Dh's birthday that weekend and we had a rather lovely time in a fabulous hotel over the weekend and you've guessed it, we had unprotected sex on the Saturday night and Sunday...sorry if tmi!

By Wednesday my boobs were so sore! This ONLY happens when I'm pregnant. Now of course, it could be a freak sore boob phase, but it's got me thinking!

Could I really have ovulated so quickly after the missed pills? Unlikely I know, but I'm starting to have my doubts. Any advice mumsnetters?

It's too late to do anything now, but I think the worrying is causing the symptoms. 3 or 4 days after sex isn't a long enough period of time for your hormones to increase to the level where they give you real symptoms. Your hormones only start rapidly rising after implantation, which typically takes around 8-10 days.

The logical part of me knows you're right MarEl !!!

I'm really not worried about it. We hadn't planned on any more but it would be nice if we were to have another!

I'm thinking that maybe the missing of the pills is causing the boob soreness.

Ooh, should have mentioned that with a ridiculously well observed conception and pregnancy with ds2 by my consultant after previous dramas with pregnancies, we knew that implantation took place around five days after ovulation! Rare I know, but happened nonetheless! Shock

Implantation usually takes place around 6 days after ovulation (I know far more than I want to about embryo development from multiple rounds of IVF).

The first 24 hours is about fertilisation.
2-3 days after ov, the embryo cells are dividing.
On day 4 it should form a morula.
On day 5 it should form a blastocyst.
On day 6 it should hatch out of the blastocyst shell and start trying to attach itself to the womb lining.

In your position I would want to test. I had IVF egg collection (equivalent to ovulation) on the Thursday of your missed pill. My boobs have been sore for a few days and I got a positive test today.

Where in the pack were you? Near the beginning, near the end or in the middle?

Harry2007 · 16/12/2013 11:58

Hi Souper

So I missed day number 2 and 3 and then took day 3 and 4 together, missing 2 completely.

On the Qlaira pack, which has a flow chart of instructions (!) it says:

Have you had sex in the last 7 days before forgetting? Yes/No

Well I hadn't as I didn't BD until day 4 which then leads me on to the bit that says:

'take the missed tablet and continue taking as usual, use a barrier method for next nine days.

HOWEVER, it doesn't give any instruction for missing more than one pill other than 'contact your doctor straight away' I.e. Just in case you're pregnant!

Does that make any sense at a all? Grin

So you were right near the beginning of the packet? That does increase the chances of you having ovulated by a lot. If you are in the middle of a packet it is much less likely, but either end makes it very possible that you could have ovulated. Have you thought about how a BFP will make you feel?

Harry2007 · 16/12/2013 13:04

I'd be fine with it Souper...I think!

Thanks for your help x

Okay, I've just done a test and I have a very faint line! I'll repeat it when I get up and see what happens!
