am 38, highest fsh was 14.6 when I was 36! been gradually coming down (last time was 12.2) but still there is some 'ovarian resistance' as my consultant has informed me.
I am thinking really hard (and likely that I will) about doing ivf in August but am wondering if its worth spending just over 2 grand on something thats not likely to work, My cons says we'll just have to see how you respond to the drugs i.e how many eggs I can produce.
I have been trying naturally for 15 months, had 3 iui and 4 months on chlomid. I think IVF is my last chance.
anyone had successful ivf with high fsh, if so what were your fsh levels and how many attempts did it take.

or even any comments about high fsh would be very helpful as can't find a thread relating to that and would prefer to hear actual experiences than so called 'experts' opinions

don't worry - i had a similarly high FSH and conceived after five IUIs (refused to take chlomid). I remember when the doctor told me the high FSH was not very promising. I was gutted. Now I look at dd (20 months) and just laugh! I had her when I was 41, by the way. All the very best.

thanks wheels, as you know success of iui reduces after 3 attempts which is why my dr has said theres no point in carrying on with it unless I really want to.

I have thought about trying more iui. Can I ask how many months between your 5 attempts or did you do consecutive months.

My main worry is that if my ovarian reserve is low now, by being stimulated with ivf hormones, it will make my ovaries produce a lot of eggs straight away...a lot of eggs that I can't afford to waste.

can' comment on the ovarian reserve question as don't know much about it, but yes i did iui five times over five months - was never told it would be less successful as i went along, and i wanted to stick with it, but was given the five treatments as a max before moving on to IVF. never fancied IVF (cos am a bit drug phobic), but got myself registered for it, and i think that helped me relax a bit. also buggered off to Barbados after fifth iui and went swimming with turtles, which i am sure helped! never realised i was pregnant so it was a total joy when i found out i was. all i really wanted to say is that i wish i had not been so frightened by all the medical stuff (ie talk of FSH being through the roof etc) because every body - and baby - is different. Good luck
