God damn my mirena coil!

Hi Everyone,

I had my coil removed 2 weeks ago today and it already feels like a lifetime has passed! I cannot bear this wait and period of unknown as i currently have no idea about my cycle or where i am at the moment.

3 days after it was removed i thought my AF had arrived and was so excited. The next morning it stopped. Nothing.

a week later which was saturday night, another bleed started which was a bit more than spotting really and that stuck around until sunday night/monday morning. I didnt need a pad or anything but each time we DTD there was pinkish and then brownish stuff when i wiped sorry TMI. monday morning it went away and again im back to nothing.

I desperately want to know whats happening with my cycle but can do nothing but wait.

Anyone else experienced anything like this and wish to share their story with me and hopefully make me feel better?!

Hi mummy - I'm guessing you didn't have periods whilst you had your Mirena in??

I was very fortunate that my cycles remained regular (though much lighter) so after it was removed for TTC reasons I didn't have to second guess things. The day after it was removed I had slight bleeding for 1 or 2 days and my period then came on the date I was expecting it.

I was warned though that it could take up to 6 months for things to re-regulate! I hope things sort themselves out ASAP.

so when it was removed you had a bleed for one or 2 days, my first bleed came on saturday night and my coil was removed on the wednesday so thats 3 days later, i thought this was too far away from removal date to be related to the coil being removed? what was your bleed like the day after, mine was red blood where as the one a week later was more pink and brown and no red.

Iv been googling so many things - implantation bleeding, ovulation bleed etc all in desperate hope it may be a sign im pregnant but secretly sort of knowing it probably just means my body is in no fit state to conveive yet. Sad

The bleeding I had afterwards I attributed to the actual removal as it wasn't the nicest/easiest thing to remove. It was fresh blood, it was more than spotting but certainly not a period. I was having to use and change a panty liners every 6 hours or so but it wasn't like they were holding too much blood anyway.

The next bleed I had was a full on period - heavy, red and painful cramps for 5 days. I'd had my Mirena in for just under 3 years and I'd forgotten what a 'normal' period was like Hmm

i find it really odd how some people get their regular periods whilst on the mirena coil yet people like me dont. why did mine stop? im worried it means itl take me ages to conceive now when before my coil i was super fertile and managed to get pregnant twice by accident whilst taking the contraceptive pill! so i was hoping this would happen just as fast! ha. i know thats pretty unlikely but in the back of my mind thats what i was thinking, and hoping.

when did you get yours removed? - we spoke in another thread i think didnt we?

I think because in some women the Mirena stops ovulation. If ovulation isn't occurring then the endometrium wall doesn't form, thus there are no periods because there is nothing to flush away each month.

I think the prevention of ovulation occurs in about 25% of women. I'm assuming I continued to ovulate as normal as I had a period every 30 days for the duration of the time I had my Coil in.

It was because of the possible ovulation issues I was warned that it may take 6 months for things to normalise and for pregnancy to occur - the doctor who gave me this warning wasn't aware that my cycles had remained regular.

We have spoken before I think Smile I had my Mirena out at the end of May and fell pregnant within 5 weeks.

sleeplessbunny · 11/12/2013 16:49

I had similar weird (not at all heavy) bleeding after having a mirena coil removed. It was on and off and, like you, I thought there would be little or no chance I'd get pregnant before my periods returned properly. WRONG! I must have conceived almost straight away as 6wks later I was pregnant. (Meant I had no idea about dates though.) And IIRC we only DTD a couple of times or so in that time.

sleeplessbunny · 11/12/2013 16:52

I had no periods with the mirena, btw.

Mummyinpink1289 · 12/12/2013 11:48

Thats so exciting SleeplessBunny Grin Made my night reading your post last night at the thought someone had the same randomness as me and ended up pregnant straight away. Iv felt nausea every day now for well over a week but pgt all say BFN which i expected as i wouldnt have thought a pregnancy would show yet anyway but as i bought some cheapies on amazon i cant help but use them like every other day just for the excitement! Blush

Still no more bleeding since sunday night and im praying i dont get anything more until christmas at least as i so desperately wanted to test xmas eve in the hope of giving my DH the best christmas present he could ever have wished for. Really not getting my hopes up though as i know this is unlikely.

When you say you had on and off bleeding - what was it like in colour and how long did it last each time? how long after ur coil came out did you do your test that came out positive, 6 weeks?

Hi Smile my guess would be that the first bleed would be a withdrawal bleed due to having your coil removed, and the second possibly a short af? I had a short bleed the day after removal, and then af just under a month later. I never had any af's while I had the coil in. And after removal they were very short, 2 days max. I had it removed on the 9th April and fell pg in the July so it didn't take too long. Although at the time it feels like forever!

Good luck!

Fivemoreminutesmummy · 12/12/2013 21:31

Hi, just wanted to say hello as I'm in the same boat. Coil only out yesterday but I'm not sure when I can expect AF or a return to fertility. Exciting though. Good luck with yours, let us know when you get your BFP.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 12/12/2013 21:37

after I had mine out it was a few weeks before I had a massive period :-/ right on holiday. then things were back to normal.

Mummyinpink1289 · 13/12/2013 11:04

Maybe but i find it strange i would get a withdrawl bleed 3 days later - if it had been the same or next day then i would have said withdrawl bleed but it seems to far apart from when the coil came out to me? Almost a week on from my second bleed and had none since.
I bought some cheap tests on amazon which i have done daily for last 3 days Blush i just cant help myself as i feel sick every day and just have a weird feeling. Plus im hoping so bad too... at 10p a go what harm can it do?! ha.
