Is putting off your AF mentally possible...?

What I mean is....

I have heard lots of people say that ovulation can easily be delayed the more you worry about it and ttc.

I wonder if the same might be true for AF.

I have been almost OBSESSIVE about it this month (not normally like this, don't know why I am now!!) and it is 8 days later than last month and 3 days late compared to a normal cycle of mine.

I'm not pg as I did a hpt yesterday and got a bfn (CD30).

I just wondered if the more I obsess, the less likely it is to arrive!!!

Thanks

...let's face it...the fact that I'm on MN at 8:30 on a Sunday morning is pretty obsessive in itself!!!!!

I know that stress can delay a period, so I guess in theory, yes it could be possible.

FrannytheBakedBeanSaviour · 16/07/2006 08:46

Ah no, there are a few of us here

Also wanted to say that I did a test 2 days after AF was due, and got a negative, when I was pregnant with ds.

Blandmum · 16/07/2006 08:49

Stress can delay a period, but it varies wildly from woman to woman.

You can't say stress=no ovulation. Think of all the babies born to women in wartime, during famines etc

coggy · 16/07/2006 08:50

Really?

I know that people do but with ds1 it came up straight away so I just assumed that it would again.

There was a thread on here about different strengths of hpts....I shall try and search it out.

When did you get you positive with your ds?

coggy, sympathy. It is sort of like being told you can have a million pounds if you don't think of a pink hat stand.....makes it impossible *to avoid thinking of a bloody hatstand!

coggy · 16/07/2006 12:28

You're right!!! LOL!!!

It has now arrived.....bl**dy painful....and only a week later than last month!!!

Aaaaaarrrgghh!!

Sorry to hear that coggy but at least it is the start of a new cycle and another chance to try again.

No AF here, just one hell of a hangover!

Piffle · 16/07/2006 15:20

coggy do you chart honey?
I had really erratic cycles until I charted. WEll they were still a little erratic but I undrstood them
Have you got the Toni Weschler book.
It is brilliant.
I was just like you 3 mths ago, honestly sounded just like you, that book gave me a better more sensible approach to ttc
I also found out that once I ovulated, my af would arrive always 14 days after, even if my Ov date varied which it did...
Hugs btw about your af xxxxxxxx

cece · 16/07/2006 18:01

Yes definitely!

When I was younger I used to hate my af so much that I am sure I used to put it off for a few days just by will!

Think I have done it this month too. I was 2 days late as I was dreading it this month. The last two since my ERPC have been horrendous.

expatinscotland · 16/07/2006 18:43

stress can definitely delay a period! i'm living proof!

only, for me, it's been worrying that i am pregnant when i didn't want to be.
