confused - when do you ovulate after feeling the pain?

I'm a bit confused about ovulation. Yesterday I felt my usual monthly ovulation discomfort, cramping and heaviness (like very very very light af pain). Today I got my solid smiley on my test. But this confuses me - does the pain not mean I ovulated yesterday? How can I now be fertile for the next two days?
Hoping someone understands the biology better than I do!

Different people feel different parts of the process so other people's answers won't help.

I feel the follicle growing from cd4 onwards and then usually ovulation itself a day or do after a positive opk.

I think this is a question that confuses most women. I definitely get ovulation pain, but it does seem to vary each month and not always tally up with opks etc.
I spent ages trying to google it, but as Eurochick says it's different for every woman….this month I defiantly felt a constant pinching/nagging on weds evening thinking it was the egg breaking through, I then had cramps all day thurs and really big ones on Friday, so I'm thinking I released the egg slowly this month. It's a lot of guess work!
