Experiences with cheapo ovulation sticks...

Hi Ladies,

Ive bought a pack of the cheap ovulation sticks on amazon - coil came out yesterday and me being overly excited did one thismorning and got a faint line which it says on the leaflet means negative BUT i just wondered if this means im close to ovulation and it could be appearing darker each day or if it just means nothing basically!

Would love to hear your experiences with them so i can get a feel of how they work and how accurate they are etc...

I started using these last month and it took me the month and 45 sticks to figure it out. I started testing way too early in cycle but it helped realise how the opks worked. This cycle it worked brilliantly as I knew what I was doing. I have a 32 day cycle and started testing from day 14 and was getting very faint lines. My lines were so faint a few days before predicted ovulation that I thought I had duds and sent dh to shop for clearblue digi. The same day I tested with cheapie and it was positive with test line slightly darker than control. The next day it was purple compared to the pink control line and I also got a smiley face on clearblue digi. Third day positive in morning and negative in the afternoon. therefore I went from having very faint line to positive test in 24 hours. I found out not to use fmu with cheapy opks as I got false positive cd9 of first cycle. I generally hold my pee for 2-3 hours and do it around midday. I must say I have found them great. HTH

thanks for the advise booisgreat its great to hear this stuff so i can get a head start as i dont want to be spending loads of money on these things. It did say not to use FMU but i did anyway cos i was too excited Blush il probably end up using another one later when i finish work too just to see if its any different. Im only on day one of ttc and look at what ive turned into already! lol

We used cheapy sticks and got DS2 Smile

I found I always had a faint line throughout my whole cycle with a day either side of the strong positive a bit darker than the faint lines (if that makes sense). I've just bought 50 more from Amazon but as I'm still bfing DS2 I haven't had AF yet so I have no idea where in my cycle I am (or if I even have a cycle!). I had a faint line today so looks like the same will happen again. The leaflet that came with them said >25 would give a positive result, 10-25 would give a faint line and below 10 nothing at all.

Good luck to all of us!

MrsW0931 · 28/11/2013 14:26

ok i have no clue what >25 10-25 or below 10 mean at all! I am a complete dummy with all things ovulation! what do they mean?

If truth be told, I don't know, lol Grin It's the concentration of hormone in your wee but I don't know what that hormone is. DS2 feeding at the moment but when he's done I'll grab the leaflet and see if it explain more. Sorry to confuse you!

I've had exactly the same experience!

When we weren't even trying (condoms, bleurgh) last month, I randomly peed on one to see how they work - and got a super strong dark line. Aha! I thought, this is easy!

This month I have peed on one every. single. day. except one, where I wasn't at home and forgot to bring any with me. No line. Nada. Zip.

I'm now busily obsessing over whether or not I have ovulated, am I a barren old wench who will never have children etc or did I just ovulate on the day I forgot?

I guess I'll find out on the 8th Dec! Grin

Ok, found the leaflet Smile

If they're the same sort they will "display positive results with specimens cotaining LH at a level greater than 25mIU/ml, between 10 and 25mIU/ml the test band will show a faint colour which is lighter than the control band in its intensity"

LH is the hormone that regulates ovulation and ovarian function, apparently.

So basically you can get a faint line and it means nothing much.

Does that help at all?

Muffer1980 · 28/11/2013 20:27

Hia just seen your messages and wondered if you can help. I've been using these strips for a while now and had either no line below or a faint pink line. Today I got a really pink line just a tiny bit lighter than he one below. Do you think this could be a positive test?

Muffer1980 · 28/11/2013 20:37

Sorry I meant the line was just a bit lighter than the control line above

KokoLoko · 29/11/2013 05:13

Hi Muffer, sounds like you're really close to a positive, I bet you get one today, Fingers crossed for you!

MrsW0931 · 29/11/2013 11:58

thanks KoKo, did another one last night and nothing again. argh. i hate waiting. i have 20 so will just use them every day cos it will keep me quiet. then once i get my period im going to not use them as il end up obsessed!
