...to have my IUD removed. It's with a doctor I don't really like, unfortunately, but she's the specialist, so there we are.

I'm excited! We've been talking about it for ages but now we're actually getting the ball rolling. I was advised to take precautions coming up to the removal to lessen the risk of ectopic pregnancy, and to give my body one cycle to get back to normal. But in 2014 it's all systems go!

Others who have had one removed - does it hurt? When I had it put in 7 years ago I was in agony for two days!

Just had mine out yesterday and it's infinitely better than having it put in :) it was over in seconds! So I wouldn't worry at all :)

Me too (hi Jess!) i had mine removed a few hours ago! and i literally felt sick whilst sat in the waiting room but honestly it didnt hurt one tiny bit so its nothing to worry about and miles better than having it put in.

My doctor never told me to use other precautions tho, she said if youre happy to get pregnant straight away then carry on as normal and up to 5 days before its removed if you DTD you can get pregnant the day of removal.

When is your appointment for?

It's for next Tuesday. I've heard different things about the precautions tbh! Thanks for the reassurance, both Smile I was panicking it would really hurt!

Blithereens I'm getting mine out on Monday so feeling excited too! I have had to make an appointment with the family planning/sexual health clinic because no one at my new GP surgery is trained to take my coil out. I wasn't told to take precautions or anything x days before. It seems people get different information. On another thread someone had been told you should get it out when you're on your period. Again I wasn't told that and i won't be next week.

Good luck!
