Hi all, have posted before under another name but just after any advice.

Ttc no 3 at age 38 after having no trouble with 1&2 in early 30's. We've been trying for a year so Dr did the bloods and told me today that they show my hormone levels are low and this is probably why we're not conceiving. She didn't say 'peri-menopausal' but that's what she was referring to. She's referred me to the fertility clinic and have an appointment at the end of December.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and whether there can be a positive outcome? I suppose there must be some hope for her to refer me but feeling a bit lowSad . Is there anything I can do to help things? Thanks.

The day 21 test is designed to show whether or not you are ovulating. If you aren't (and this is not due to menopause), there is plenty they can do to make ovulation happen.

hey hedwiggy, did they explain about what hormones were low? I have been told that my hormones (on CD21) are "outside the normal levels" but am going back to ask lots of questions. The levels will help to explain what it is that is not happening, could be ovulation, or could be what is happening after ovulation. That's my understanding anyway. Try to find out some more, as euro says there is plenty that can be done, if it's ov. or if you have low progesterone. fingers crossed for you xxxx

Thanks v much for the replies, no she didn't say which hormones and I didn't think to ask, was expecting her to say all was normal and to just carry on trying! Will have to do some research before my appointment in December so I can arrange right questions.

She did say it's definitely not the menopause but I'm in the 10-15 years before this when some changes happen. Thanks again.

How long are your cycles? You might have ovulated later than the 'standard' day 14 therefore it won't show adequately on day 21 test results!

Yes I was told this too by my local hospital gynae dept.
I took no notice as your cycle may not be that precise.

I waited for the experts at the fertility clinic who took a shed load more bloods and gave me a far more accurate picture of my fertility.

I had been trying for 22 months and ended up having 9 pregnancies in 10 years with no help.

There is lots they can do to boost hormones if in fact that is the issue. Don't lose hope.

My day 21 bloods always came back a bit low however had them done a few days later and they'd cranked right up so it showed I was ovulating, granted a bit later.

Have you tried temping OP? That will give you a bit of an idea as well.

hedwiggywiggerson · 26/11/2013 21:37

I haven't tried temping but did an ovulation test this month and it was about mid cycle when I got a positive. Cycles are 26-28 days although the month before was a blip at 33 days.
