Sounds cheesy but it will be such an important moment and therefore I am giving it some thought (nothing like positive thinking).

I have heard of telling him the news by putting booties on his pillow, wrapping up the positive test, giving him a "can't wait to meet you card" tell me your ideas!!! My parents live abroad so I have already thought about sending them scan pictures with a "can't wait to meet you card". Such exciting thoughts!

1st time. we tested together
2nd time we were trying anyway but i put it on the fridge with ds1s magnets (first thing u say when u come in our house)

3rd time (m/c) i told him we needed a bigger house

wannaBe1974 · 13/07/2006 14:26

do the test together.

actually if/when it happens for me my dh will actually know before I do because I can't read the tests so he had to read them. When we got our bfp with ds, he said to me .. "um, I can't remember how the test is supposed to look if it's positive" I told him there were two lines if positive to which he replied .. "well there are two lines..." as for parents I just rang them and told them. no-one other than dh was allowed to see my scan pictures as I didn't want anyone else to see my baby before I did.

Have to say I wrapped up my positive test and gave it to my partner when I was pregnant with our second and he just grinned and grinned! I'm not entirely sure it was the best way to let him know, some might think it a bit disgusting to be holding something you weed on!!! Hope your moment comes soon.

Oops!

Piffle · 13/07/2006 14:28

with dd he did not believe me as the line was so faint, I went off in a strop with him.
Yesterday I got my + test and went to ring him, he said I'm busy can I call back
He has a habit of ruining the moment LOL

wannaBe1974 · 13/07/2006 14:30

piffle how you feeling?

MrsMcJnr · 13/07/2006 14:31

I like the fridge magnets idea Mumofmonsters!

I'm sure I heard a story once about a dad to be putting the end of the tester in his mouth because he did not know what it was!

I had to wait a DAY AND A HALF before telling dh as he was working funny shifts and one of us was asleep or not around.....my gp friend knew before my poor dh as I was so shocked after nearly 5 years of trying...wanted to be sure!!

I found out I was pg with ds in Sept. and I asked him to put a date in his diary and when I said the end of May he looked puzzled and asked why? I simply said..."because that's when your son or daughter will be born"!!!

I had to get him 3 shots of whiskey (and he doesn't normally even drink the stuff!!!)
It was FAB!

Natty1806 · 13/07/2006 19:29

that's lovely

ja9 · 13/07/2006 19:43

i love all those ideas of booties on pillows etc, but dh would absolutely do his nut if i ever tested without him being present!

westerngirl · 13/07/2006 20:25

Don't think dh even looked at my stick as he recoiled when I shoved it under his nose. He kept saying 'be careful with that; you've wee'd on it'. I thought it was graceless under the circumstances. The cap was on fgs.

beansprout · 13/07/2006 20:27

lol westerngirl! 'cos that's the messiest bit of the whole business so if he can avoid the wee stick, he'll be in the clear!!!

Sexonlegs · 13/07/2006 20:34

Men heh! My dh was working away so I just called him, which was really boring now I think back on it. I wish I had wrapped up the hpt as a pressie for him now.
Next time eh!!! Whenever that may be.

lacrimosa · 13/07/2006 20:42

ds he was sitting next to me when the scanning man said ill just check for abnormalities first, then he said there is a major abnormality and its got two arms and two legs!

dd I put balloons on the front door and a poster saying congratulations daddy , again!

mummyhill · 13/07/2006 21:00

1st time round I burst into tears and told him when I got in from a late shift at work.

2nd time (m/c) phoned him at work to tell him to book some time off in 9 months

3rd time sat there sobbing till he asked me what was wrong then he gave me a big hug and told me everything would be ok this time round (and it was we now have two beautiful children.

If we have any more will have to tell him to buy a bigger house.

We had been TTC ds1 for about 18 months and I was doing loads of tests all the time so it wasnt unual when i went off to do yet another one. He'd even stopped asking what the result was as it was always negative... When this one came up positive he was in the kitchen, I called him and said 'its positive' he replies 'oh ok' and goes back into the kitchen... 5 minutes later he wanders out looking dazed and said 'what did you say??'

With DS2 he knew before I did, and bought me a test home. He had to sit me down and explain that he thought I was pregnant. I have a habit of going into denial though.

aprilmeadow · 15/07/2006 19:48

I called my best friend first just to make sure i was reading it correctly. Then once re-assured i called dh at work and and said 'hello daddy' apparantly his face nearly fell to the floor! His hands went to his mouth and his boss - knowing it was me on the phone said 'what was that, the wife telling you she is pg hahaha.

will have to think of a better way next time.

riab · 15/07/2006 20:36

I rang him at work at 4pm to find out what time he woudl be home - something I often do anyway, this was after a day of butterflies and 2 tests just to be sure!
He came in and I think I told him to go upstairs and look in the bathroom.
