Eggcellent Egg Buddies - a thread for those IVFing in November, December and January

New thread. Welcome back to all the regulars. Welcome to all the newbies - please come and join us if you are IVFing or thinking about. The regulars are a mine of information at this point!

Do you realise that this will take us through a year of egg buddy threads? I believe Karbea started the last one around Xmas time last year for those cycling in 2013 and I immediately jumped on it as I was about to start my first cycle in January. Blimey.

beetle I'm menkulling a bit today. I woke up for a wee in the middle of the night to find lots of brown blood. I know brown is better than red, but I could do without it. I've decided not to go to the EPU (unless it gets really painful/heavy) and just wait it out for my next scan on Tuesday next week. There's nothing they can do if things are going wrong anyway. And the stats say that a heartbeat at 8 weeks gives a 98% chance of things going well. I'll be just under 8 weeks next Tuesday, so if we hang on until then and things are good, I'm hoping we can relax a bit. And if they are not, going earlier wouldn't have changed anything. Che sera sera.

Well done to all those egg growing. My stimming period was pretty short, because of the run away follies. I had 8 days of stimming I think.

pip I barely bruised but I tend not to anyway. I've heard that lots of people do.

Sorry to hear that Euro. It's so hard not to worry, but I think you are right not to rush to the EPU. Hang in therex

beetle do you feel ready? Would you feel better putting it off by a month and using that month to "live well"? Personally I would advise not rushing into another (inevitably emotionally charged) cycle so soon after all you have been through. It took me far longer than I realised at the time to recover from my mc physically and mentally, and you have been through so much more. x

I see. That does complicate things. Although I don't understand why you would fly to SA if you would have to pay for treatment anyway. Why not have a fresh cycle in the UK (if you would need to)?

OIC. Now I understand! That does complicate things a bit doesn't it? But I guess even factoring in flights and accommodation, it wouldn't end up costing you that much more to go back than to cycle in the UK. I think maybe I would do the FET before you leave in those circs.

The bleeding and cramping is easing, but I can feel my cervix opening/moving (I'm not quite sure what it's doing but it is the same thing it does when my body is getting ready to start AF), so I am still a bit ill at ease.

Gosh - I've been away over Xmas and New year and just read through missed posts. So much had been happening so sorry if I miss people.

Well done to those stimming - injections can be a pain but keep going. It sounds like EC's are coming thick
and fast.

BrookerC - keen to hear about your planned natural FET. We had our review appointment today and were offered natural or medicated. I'd prefer natural as I hate all the artificial hormones but chances are better with medicated especially as I have endo and adenomysis.

Fish and res - so sorry to hear your news. I hope you are finding some time to be kind to yourselves.

Euro - congrats. I truly hope scan next week goes well. Each time I've been in for my ectopics I've always been told bleeding in early pregnancy is quite common and the thing they really worry about it pain.

Tame - well done on reaching a decision about DE. I hope you will have a positive experience.

AFM - my cycle is messed up following failed IVF in November. One period was fine (a few days late but ok) but now I've been spotting on an off all mid cycle so we have to wait before starting a FET.

A question for those who've had the scratch. When did you have it done in relation to your cycle?

Also interested in SET v DET. We've been told we can do DET on our frozen cycling we want. We have 2 frosties.

X

vallinnapod · 07/01/2014 16:22

Euro - hugs. I had horrible red bleeding with DS, as well as the delightful shades of beige/brown sludge and he was all fine and dandy. I realise it is IMPOSSIBLE not to worry but try not to although I would be camped out in the EPU

Beetle - I tried as soon as I could after my MC. I think it made the cycle 100 times harder emotionally and physically but TBH I couldn't have waited. The same with doing this one back to back. I could do with some time out from IVF but any time out I spend counting down to whenever we would start IYSWIM? I just want it done :( not scaring you off, just trying to prepare you (although we are all different).

I have bruised nicely from my first Clexane jab - the Gonal f side is fine.

vallinnapod · 07/01/2014 16:25

Sorry Thoughful - my scratch was on day 21

eurochick · 07/01/2014 17:41

The bleeding is increasing and turning red. This is not feeling promising.

Thoughtful I had the scratch quite near the end of my cycle- about day 26 or something. I wasn't sure I would make it that far without AF! But I did, and it was fine.

While I'm here, thanks to all for your views on SET v DET. I've no idea if our 2 were frozen together or not so unsure if I'll get a choice but still an interesting debate.

And sorry for starting it then disappearing but spent yesterday afternoon reeling from a colleague's crassness. She is a friend but almost left me speechless! She knows about my DE IVF and recent loss...she emailed me to say she had 'gossip' so we planned a trip to the loo as I was grateful for the distraction. And so to the gossip - XX, another colleague is PREGNANT...through IVF...first time...she planned it...she used DONOR sperm...isn't it all so WEIRD!!!

She seemed surprised that I was non-plussed. I'm not over-reacting, am I? That was not a story for my ears this week, surely! Just goes to show, as I see it, that until you're in this IVF thing, you really, really, really don't get it.

ThoughtfulOne · 07/01/2014 18:54

Oh res - how thoughtless! I just can't understand why some people think we care about other random people's pg stories. I tolerate pg announcements for family and close friends and hope that they are delivered with tact but it's the random "oh and so and so is pregnant" that I could do without. We will realise (in our own time) if someone we work with is pg.

So sorry - this journey is rubbish. I recently got from FIL a story about a distant relative who had an ectopic and is now pg successfully. Even this (knowing what she has gone through once) is unnecessary. I was feeling particularly uncharitable and said - with all due respect it is not quite the same the biggest indicator following an ectopic is the health of the other tube. Mine is f*ed, I've had 2 and a failed ivf. I am not magically going to get pg and knowing she did has nothing to do with my likelihood of success.

I know I'm a b but sometimes it jut comes out.

eurochick · 07/01/2014 19:29

res that was daftly insensitive.

vallinnapod · 07/01/2014 20:27

Euro I can only empathise with how you are feeling. It's a hideous thing to go through but hold on to the fact it can just be one of those things and that all is probably fine.

Res…your friend….if you haven't been through it you really do trivialise the process.

Thoughtful my MIL is similar. I never have periods due to PCOS and my MIL tells us to go on holiday as it will 'just happen' Hmm

Pipbin · 07/01/2014 20:58

Euro I feel for you. In fact I'm close to tears here.
Please look after yourself and do whatever you think is right. I know what you mean when you say there is nothing that can be done but I too would be braying on the door if the EPU.

Bunnygirlie · 07/01/2014 21:09

I still can't get my head round a fruit omelette lol

badhair thanks, it does seem awfully fast. The FC nurse wrote down 5 sets of numbers so I guess 5 good ones on the right hand side, size 17/18. Does that sound right?

Thanks beetle keeping everything crossed for you next cycle! You brave girl!

euro fingers crossed things are all ok Flowers

Oh res that is not a nice friend, I think I would have slapped her!

Just did my trigger shot, guess its all go now. Kind of scared and nervous and excited and hopeful and trying to be positive!

Advice please lovely ladies, so I guess with EC Thursday they will chuck things back in sometime Sunday-Tuesday? How long shall I take off work after that? I am starting to feel a little stressed.

Hatteras · 07/01/2014 22:07

Euro everything crossed for you that things are ok.

Bunny, it's normal to feel nervous, can totally relate to that mixture of nervous/scared/excited. Don't worry, it will all be fine! As for how long you take off work, I think is different for everyone - whether your job is physical/stressful or you have a long commute etc. I work from home, so didn't have to take time off, just took things easy on the actual day of the egg transfer but after that I just carried on as normal, did some gentle walks, just nothing crazy.

I actually had a lot of pain and discomfort after the egg collection, but I think this is pretty unusual. I read that discomfort is caused by excess fluid filling up the now empty follicles (?). However the EC procedure itself was totally painless, I think I was just unlucky with post EC problems.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.
