Self insemination, tilted cervix, and other malarkey

Hello all,

We've been TTC for nine months now, and it's really starting to drag. I think the problem is me, because a) I don't get ewcm, or watery for that matter, b) my cervix points entirely the wrong way, and c) I find it pretty hard to get wet during sex. I've been doing everything I can to combat these problems (Preseed, evening primrose oil, flax seed oil, grapefruit juice, red clover tea, green tea, red raspberry leaf tea, I could go on...), but nothing has made the slightest bit of difference. I'd say nine months is plenty of time for something to have worked, but nothing has, I still get almost no cm and we're still not pregnant Sad. (I'm 28 btw, so I doubt it's age-related).

Anyway, I thought we'd have a bash at self-insemination just to try something different. Who knows, maybe that method would transcend my cm problem. I don't have a syringe and wouldn't really know what I was doing if I did have one - my cervix points backwards so I wouldn't be able to squirt the sperm at the opening no matter how hard I tried, and what with having no ewcm for the sperm to climb up, I just feel it's a lost cause and that the syringe method would be no better than straightforward bonking (it wouldn't get any nearer to the cervix that hubby's schlong does). Am I right or wrong about that? Does anyone have any tips?

This cycle we're planning on doing the sperm-in-soft cup, insert-soft-cup method. It's the only way I'll know sperm has actually met my cervix, but I'm not sure if it too is a terribly flawed idea.

I'm a bit at a loss, basically. Any advice would be gratefully clung to. Thanks in advance Smile

Muriel I don't know but am in a similarish position. I have a tilted (retroverted) cervix and have thought about that method. So far we haven't but I'll watch your progress with interest Grin

What you can do is advanced search on here and look for a thread from about 2007 (I think??) with 'turkey baster method' in the title. It has loads of useful info about the practicalities. hth

Have a look on the dec bus thread. they are talking about a venos cough medicine (a safe one for ttc) that apparently gives you buckets of ewcm….
Good luck. Report back. I'm almost considering sticking dh in a room with a porno and then turkey basting myself because I'm so sick of 'trying', but not 'trying' so he doesn't get all worried and not perform. It's awful, but I'm not very sympathetic when it happens…which makes things worse!

We had to do home insemination for various reasons.

I also get no noticeable ewcm but it's quite common not to see it so I wouldn't despair. We used Balance Activ Conception from Boots (basically the same thing as preseed).

There is good info in the Pride Angel website about home insemination. You can buy syringes from any chemist for about 50p. You want a 5 or 10 ml one for ease of insertion. We used one of the syringes that comes with baby calpol!

Basic method:
Partner comes in a cup
Keep cup warm for 10 mins until sperm has liquified (gone from thick and white to clear and runny)
Suck sperm up into syringe
Insert syringe and gently depress plunger
Leave syringe in place for 30 mins

I wasn't sure about the soft cup method... Looked a bit complex! We got a bfp the 2nd month of home insemination after a year of trying naturally.

Hi, I read an article on another website about AI and Home insemination, will attach the link at the end of my post its quite informative! I noticed they also recommend an extender tip to help the sperm get higher up the cervix so may well be worth contacting them direct for advice or posting on their website? Hope the link helps and works!! prideangel.com/p120/fertility-pregnancy/Home-Insemination.aspx Good luck, let us know how you get on xx
