Cheap tests - false positive?

I got a faint positive on a cheap internet test.

In all probability I think it is an evap line, but a later test of the same brand had no line at all. A subsequent FRER test was negative (although not fmu).

I know there is nothing I can do but test again - so I am waiting. I've tried to distract myself - it's impossible. Hence I am back in here with a new name.

I am kicking myself for buying cheap tests - has anybody else had strong evap lines or false positives with a cheapy? (I have had a false positive before with branded hpt so I know it is possible)

I was always told that a false positive was impossible because the HCG has to be there to react. However if you've had a false positive before i don't know what to say. Have you got another test to do now. Hope it gives you the answer you wantGrin

Thanks halestone, I guess that's what's so unnerving - I can't be sure either way. I've done three tests today only the fmu was positive - but does that mean its a dud?

I am trying to prepare myself for the morning, I don't like not knowing things! At least if others have had false positives with cheap tests I could feel a bit more settled tonight.

Some cheap tests are incredibly sensitive. £1shop tests in particular are good. A lot of the more expensive tests are much less sensitive.
Example: an hcg blood test with a reading under 5 is classified as not pg. £1shop tests will pick up a reading of 10. Some of the expensive tests won't pick up less than 40. In the early days this is a big difference. I've always had really good results with cheap tests. Don't give up hope just yet, leave it a couple of days and see what happens. Always use nice concentrated wee. FMU is good, or after a few hours without a drink. Drinking a lot to get a wee out just dilutes the sample.

The not knowing will make it worse. Good luck for the morning Thanks

also, pee into a cup or ramekin. you can do more than one test with it then of you need to.

SnazyJaz · 18/11/2013 23:38

Thanks for the peeing in a ramekin tip - that's a great idea, could have saved so much worry about evaporation lines today!

I had an evap line on an internet cheapie last cycle. Was in exactly the right place but knew it was an evap as so thin. I've got to be honest, it's out me off them a bit!

evaporation lines are generally grey. If it's the same colour as the test strip it's probably a BFP.

SnazyJaz · 19/11/2013 06:53

It is the same colour, but two BFNs this morning. Thank you for replying yesterday.
