Do frers give the definitive answer?

Hi all, I'm 9/10 dpo today and considering getting a frer when we go shopping. However, I'm a bit anxious about it because if it's negative I will be heartbroken. Being so sensitive, I presume frers are usually right?

The advert conveniently popping up on my screen says 62% of women tested effectively 5 days before period is due. It varies so much when an embro implants and starts to produce HCG, some women won't get a positive until several days after their period was due. If a negative at this stage would upset you, wait till your period is late, then you have at least a good chance of seeing 2 lines.

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 08:21

Okay, thank you. I will try to wait!

Really please don't test early you're setting yourself up for hurt and needless expense if it is negative

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 09:01

You're right, thank you. I just see lots of others getting early results and praying it was me!

Is frer a First Response Early test?

If so I got a positive at 12 days DPO. But I was then paranoid for the next 2/3 days that I was going to get my period as usual & be terribly disappointed.

If there's a next time I will try to wait, but I know the suspense is a killer if you're symptom spotting!

Best of luck Thanks

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 09:14

Yes, it's the first response one. That's made me feel a bit calmer though, thanks :-)

I didn't use FRER until I was 14dpo and got my BFP.
I was just using the internet cheapie up until then.

Three days before my period was due I bought a test that supposedly can give you accurate results four days before your period is due. I used it but got a BFN even though I was pregnant.

9/10 dpo is still really early - implantation may not even have occurred until yesterday or not even happened at all yet. Give it a few more days x

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 09:49

Thanks, writer. I just needed some reassurance about early testing, I think, and you have all helped me remember that it's not a good idea!

KatAndKit · 10/11/2013 09:54

I tend to be an early tester. I got a bfp on a free four days early last time round and it was a clear positive. Any earlier and it would probably have been a case of squinting at an almost invisible line. Try to wait two days

BlindKitty · 10/11/2013 12:52

Frer do give the best result (I sent dh to shops after could hardly read 2 others) but you're way too early. Wait at least another 2-3 days if you ask me

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 12:53

Thanks, guys. Are they expensive?

OP posts:
MrsB2013 · 10/11/2013 13:17

I got mine from Asda, think they were about £8. I agree with the others and suggest you wait a few days before testing

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 13:24

Am going to wait until at least Wednesday! I am happy to wait because I wouldn't like to see a negative!

HalfPintLulu · 10/11/2013 13:33

Someone sad that on amazon, they're doing the 2 packs for about £4 :) have a google and see :)

HalfPintLulu · 10/11/2013 13:34

Someone said, not someone sad! Lol

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 15:23

I've got about five IC tests in the bathroom but assumed a frer would be better if I decided to test early.

OP posts:
BumWad · 10/11/2013 16:15

First response tests are £3.50 for two on amazon I ordered a load yesterday if you order some now they'll be here by the time you're ready to test and it will stop you from testing needlessly! :-)

VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 16:19

So even if I left it, say, four days, are we saying that a frer is more reliable than an IC?

OP posts:
VJONES1985 · 10/11/2013 17:20

I'm a bit confused by about the differences, sorry.

OP posts:
PuppyMummy · 11/11/2013 07:01

it depends what concentration of hcg the tests measure.

frer are more sensitive than clearblue because they measure a smaller ammount of hcg, for example.

fwiw I would just wait until your due on and test if your period is actually late. you should get a more reliable answer then.

englishteacher78 · 11/11/2013 07:04

I didn't test until I was 3 days late this time. I think it's too much of an emotional rollercoaster to test early.

VJONES1985 · 11/11/2013 12:54

I will try to stay strong!

OP posts:
allchatnicknamesgone · 11/11/2013 14:43

Hi. I think testing early is emotionally draining and very hard. Even if you do get a Bfp, there is the nagging worry AF could still come. Each to their own, but I've figured out that I can't handle early testing. You can get a bfn, but still tell yourself its too early bla bla bla. We've all been there and got the t shirt! Good luck holding out if you chose to. My trick is to piss as soon as a wake and not get it in a cup and also don't buy anything. If you are a few days late then all shop bought tests should pick it up. X

VJONES1985 · 11/11/2013 16:05

allchat I know exactly what you mean because I would feel the same way. I'm finding it really difficult to resist testing though. I just wanna do it tonight even though I know that's ridiculous, at 10/11 dpo. Must be strong though - I know it's much better to wait.

OP posts:
PrincessKitKat · 11/11/2013 16:44

Allchat - I used to do that too! Make myself have an early morning wee (without collecting) so I 'missed my chance' and had to wait just one more day! Smile

How are you doing V? Still holding out? Any more symptoms spotted?
